Word of the Week – Squabbles

It’s been a little bit of a tough week to say the least. The children have been under the weather with coughs and colds. This has led to cabin fever setting in which in turn led to squabbles about anything and everything.

The children have been arguing over toys, television programmes, teeth brushing, and whose turn it is to have raspberries blown on their tummies. Although it’s quite comical at times it’s also frustrating and draining.

I’m sure it’s just that point in the summer holidays where everyone is getting a little fed up. We are all starting to crave a term time routine. I do my best to keep them occupied. There are only so many times you can visit the library and the park. When you have a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old the challenge is even greater.

I wondered if the solution was that we need to buy doubles of everything but I’m sure the children would just find something else to squabble about. I will stand back and keep acting as a referee and hope that I survive with some of my sanity intact.

If you enjoyed this post you might also like my previous word of the week, Win.

  1. We’ve had a bit of squabbling this week too – I think it’s just been the children getting overtired due to everything that has been going on over the last couple of weeks. For us, getting out of the house helps a lot. Hope the squabbling eases for you soon. #WotW

  2. Yep! We have got to that point in the holidays….My girls have been terrible for their squabbling this week. The most ridiculous this week was who had the most cream in their chocolate eclair…lol
I try to let my girls sort things out between themselves….They are 13 & 8 so are old enough….

  3. I have the same age gap and it is hard work. One minute they love each other to death the next major squabbles. It won’t be long now just remember to take breathes and know you are not alone X #wotw

  4. Yes, I suspect they’d just find something else to squabble about! I think when they’re under the weather it definitely makes the little niggles seem like bigger squabbles. Here’s hoping next week’s better for you x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

  5. I probably have all this to come with another girlie on the way and a 3 year old! I bet it’s funny at first and then a bit annoying! Hope everyone feels better xx #wotw

  6. I’m yet to meet a family free from squabbling ! My two have thankfully not had too many moments I tend to separate them until they can be nice ha xx

  7. Oh I think summer holidays bring out their squabbling nature! I am lucky in that the for majority of the time my 5 & 8 year old get on well together, but when they do start squabbling I suggest they go outside to run around or get the Lego out!
One week of the holidays left… Have a lovely week
    xx
