This or That? Winter Edition

After writing about the things I love about Autumn I thought it would be fun to start a new series with this or that type questions about the seasons. I always see lots of these questions on Instagram and very often take part. Creating a This or That? winter edition for my blog gives me a chance to answer the questions in more depth.

This or That? Winter Edition

Cold hands or cold ears?

Neither are pleasant but I would prefer cold hands, cold ears are super painful. I’m sure you have all felt that biting sting when you’ve come into a warm house after being out in the cold. I’m not a fan of wooly hats but maybe I should try some ear muffs.

Bubble bath or shower?

I’m choosing shower for this one but if you had asked me years ago I would have said bubble bath. Our bathtub is on the smaller size and not very comfortable so I don’t have a bath very often nowadays.

Build a snowman or go ice skating?

Definitely building a snowman, I’m not the most agile or sporty of people so I could see ice-skating ending in disaster. It’s bad enough walking the dog when it’s icy outside, I look like a shuffling penguin! Building a snowman is a great thing to do together as a family. We had a little flurry recently and my son made the smallest of snowmen who we checked on every day until he melted.

Hibernate or migrate?

It’s hibernate every time for me, I love this time of year and wouldn’t want to miss a minute by being somewhere warmer. I love that in the UK we get four solid seasons, although you could argue that summer sometimes forgets to make an appearance. I don’t think I would enjoy being somewhere warmer this time of year I would feel all discombobulated.

Long winter nap or long winter walk?

This is a tough one as I love napping but I also love the benefits of a wintery walk. I’m going to choose a winter walk. Nature looks even more beautiful when covered in frost I think. I do not always look forward to going outside when it’s freezing but I always feel great afterwards.

Movie night or game night?

Another hard one to answer, I love to do both but I think this time of year I would choose a movie night. There’s nothing cosier than getting warm and comfy on the sofa with some snacks to watch a movie. It’s the season to watch all my favourite Christmas movies like A Christmas Story and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.

Let it snow or let it melt?

Let it snow! I think everything looks so beautiful covered in snow. I know it can cause a lot of disruption but there’s something so magical about it.

Frosty mornings or cosy evenings?

Frosty mornings especially if I’m going to walk the dog. Luckily I’m a morning person so despite the cold I always spring out of bed ready to get going with the day. I am a fan of cosy evenings too but I usually end up feeling very sleepy and ready for bed.

Gloves or mittens?

Gloves are for me; I still want to be able to use my fingers. I don’t like the restrictiveness of mittens although they do look very cute and cosy.

Cinnamon scent or gingerbread scent?

This is another tricky question but I will go with gingerbread. My favourite candle is gingerbread-scented and I’ve just bought some gingerbread shower gel to try too. Gingerbread is such a warming and comforting scent and stirs lots of good memories for me.

Soup or stew?

I love a big bowl of stew in the winter especially if there are suet dumplings too. Stews are so hearty, easy to make, and are a real comfort food at this time of year.

Knitted jumpers or sweatshirts?

As much as I think knitted jumpers look lovely I just can’t bring myself to wear them. I have unpleasant memories of my younger years wearing handmade knitted jumpers that were so itchy and uncomfortable. I do love a sweatshirt especially if they are the soft cotton type.

Costa or Starbucks?

I think the winter menu at Costa is much nicer than Starbucks. In general, I prefer the coffee from Costa so I tend to stick with them when I want a hot drink on the go. They do the best gingerbread latte’s and their mince pies are delicious too.

What do you prefer in the winter? If you have any blog posts about the things you love in winter please leave me a link in the comments I would love to read them.
