I couldn’t decide if this week’s word of the week should be busy or frustrating as it has been both. These last couple of weeks before Christmas seem to get busier every year but I’m determined not to get overwhelmed with it all this year.
On Sunday evening I wrote myself a list for the week ahead, I always write a daily list but a busy week sometimes requires something extra. I’m not doing so well energy-wise at the moment being in the midst of a colitis and ME flare-up. At times like this, it’s more important than usual to manage my expectations and pace myself.
On Monday I had a good look at what was going to be a priority for the week and what if anything could be cancelled or rearranged. I have a bad habit of thinking I can do it all and it often leads to overwhelm and burnout. I’ve been very strict with myself this year and have been catching myself before I get to feeling like that.
A nice busy event was Daisy’s 13th birthday, I can’t believe we now have a teen in the house. When I started this blog Daisy was almost two years old and Jake wasn’t even born yet. I’m so glad I have lots of documented memories to look back at on my blog.
On the same day, Jake’s school had a Polar Express themed day which was fun for him. This is his final year in primary school, I think he will miss days like this when he’s at high school. The high school where he will go doesn’t do anything for Christmas which is a little sad.
The rest of the week has been filled with appointments and errands. I also had to do the weekly food shop which proved frustrating. It’s bad enough that the stores are getting busier without Aldi deciding to move everything around to squeeze in the Christmas stock. I wish stores would realise that people still need to buy their regular groceries this time of year. I’m turning into a right grump when it comes to shopping lately.
I’m hoping for a much calmer less busy week next week. Have you had a busy week? Tell me how you cope with the busyness at this time of year.
My week has been quite quiet despite it being so close to Christmas. I think I am going to have to write a list of things that I need to do for next week. Eek!
I hope you feel better for Christmas.
Happy birthday to Daisy! I hope she had a great day. x
Happy belated birthday to Daisy! Hope she had a good one. This time of year is busy isn’t it – I find making a list and working out what is actually essential helps me manage it. Sorry to hear that you’re in the middle of a ME/colitis flare-up and hope you feel better soon. The Polar Express day sounds like a fun thing for Jake. I’m making the most of the last of the Christmassy things in primary school with Sophie too. Hope that next week is a calmer one for you x #WotW
I hope Daisy had a fabulous 13th birthday. The times flies by so quickly. I started blogging when I had baby number 5, which was the name of my blog, but I changed it a couple of years later and now my baby is 14! I hope you are feeling better soon and that you have a more peaceful week.
I loved my book btw. It was really different.
