Word Of The Week-Sad

My word for this week is sad. On Monday evening, we had our cat Mo put to sleep. It was an incredibly hard decision, but the best thing for him. We feel so lucky that he chose to spend the whole of his almost 17 years of life with us. He was such a good boy, he loved belly rubs, his cosy spot on top of the sofa and lying in the sun in the garden.

The vet and the nurse were lovely, giving us plenty of time at each stage. Chris and I gave him lots of cuddles and love, and he went peacefully. I’m so glad I was with him right until the end of his life.

We all just feel so incredibly sad. Mo had been there for the whole of the kids’ lives, and he really was a part of our family. There have been a lot of tears, but also a lot of sharing our memories of him.

I’m going to buy some forget-me-nots and plant them in the corner of the front garden where he loved to sit and chill. I think it will be a nice reminder for us; we can remember him doing something he loved when we are feeling sad.

It’s going to take a long while to get used to him not being here.

I’m linking up with Anne from Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.

  1. Awww, I’m so sorry. Mo looks like an adorable cat. We have a 16 yr old cat which I can slowly see deteriorating and we are going to miss her like crazy when her time is up. The Vet said there is nothing he can do as she is just old. She also likes sitting on the back of the settee and is in the garden in the sun. She’d purring loudly right behind me as I type. I hope that your memories will keep you happy for a long time. Big, big hugs x

  2. Sending lots of virtual hugs to you for the loss of Mo. You have a lot of memories to last but I know the feeling that Mo is just not there. I like the idea of planting flowers in that spot in the garden.

  3. I am so very sorry for your loss. Pets are a part of the family and their loss is felt deeply. I love the idea of the forget-me-nots.

  4. Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear this. Planting Forget me nots is a lovely idea, we did that for our dog Bob who we had to put to sleep in September 2023, he was a huge part of our lives and we miss him daily, I feel your loss. #wotw
