Project 365 Week 28-A Steakhouse Feast, A Heatwave and A Poem

Week 28 of Project 365 has been a scorcher with another heatwave arriving. We’ve tried to be as prepared for it as we can, as none of us enjoys this type of weather. It’s not been a busy week, and I’m grateful for that. We are now on the two-week countdown to the summer holidays, and my planner is filling up quickly, so I’m savouring the peace for now.

Sunday involved going for a delicious meal for the second week in a row. This time, I went to Rio Brazilian Steakhouse for my cousin’s birthday. The photo above was just the food from the salad bar; the meal included a variety of meats that were served at the table. I had a lovely time eating and catching up with family that I don’t see that often.

The rest of the day was spent doing the usual jobs, getting ready for the week ahead.

Monday was a fairly quiet day; it always feels really strange when everyone is back to school and work after the weekend. I did my usual pottering around the house, took Indie for a walk and then settled down to a few hours of work.

Monday is my shopping day, and I always get a drink for when I’m finished. I usually choose an iced coffee, but couldn’t resist this retro Dandelion & Burdock. It tasted just as good as I remember, exactly like the old glass bottles that the pop man used to bring. Does anyone else remember the pop man? You got money off if you returned your bottles, if I remember rightly.

Daisy is having another one of her poems published, so I needed to send permission for that to happen. They have her age wrong, so I’ve corrected that, and we are good to go. I really wish I had Daisy’s understanding of mental health when I was her age.

Jake came home with his SAT results today. He did really well and is very happy with himself.

I was so happy to be able to pick a handful of green beans from the garden on Wednesday morning. There’s another heatwave due, so I pottered in the garden, making sure everything was doing as well as it could after being repotted.

On Thursday evening, Chris went to pick up some bee boxes that he’s borrowing from a work friend. He’s really interested in learning about beekeeping and has been offered some land to put them on so he can have a go. His work friend sent home with some fresh eggs from their chickens. Jake always has eggs on Friday morning for his breakfast so this week they will be super fresh ones.

During this heatwave, I’ve been putting to use all the things I learned while writing this blog post about keeping yourself cool. All the windows, blinds and curtains have remained closed during the day, which has been quite effective. Our living room only has blinds, so Chris made some makeshift curtains with the blankets to block some of the afternoon sun.

Jake brought home his final ever primary school report today, which felt very bittersweet. I’m sad his primary school days are almost over, but excited for his new experience of high school to begin.

There are currently two of these fans situated in the living room, and I’m sitting in the middle of them and not venturing anywhere. Chris took the kids for a haircut this morning, as I didn’t feel very well. I’ve missed my usual charity shop visit, but it’s far too hot to be rummaging for treasures today. It’s a Saturday of rest and hydration for us all today.

  1. It’s so horrible and hot isn’t it. I’ve stayed inside as much as possible, although 2 days in the office with aircon was nice. The steakhouse sounds nice, I wish we had somewhere near us like that.

  2. I have not being enjoying the hot weather but I will be complaining when it’s cold again. lol
What a fab meal out for your cousins birthday!
I do the same with the shopping, I always get a nice drink. I haven’t had Dandelion & Burdock for ages and yes I remember the pop man!
Well done to Daisy with the poem and Jake with his SATS results, you must be so proud!
    The bee keeping sounds interesting.
I have been keeping the living room windows shut until early afternoon when the sun moves to the back of the house. It really does help. x

  3. Every time we’ve ever moved we’ve used blankets for the first few nights in our new home. Yes, I’m old enough to remember the Pop Man, it was Corona pop in the brightest of colours. Shame you didn’t get out to the charity shops on the weekend.

  4. That poem is beautiful. Well done to her for writing and getting published too.
It’s always nice to harvest from the garden. This year I only have fruits, I should grow more.

  5. I feel your pain, it’s been another scorching week, and I have been moving around half-dead. Sitting between two fans is a great idea. And covering the windows works. I remember the days when we spent holidays with my auntie in the south, they always covered the windows with curtains in the main house and newspapers in the conservatory.
    What a beautiful, thought-provoking poem.
The meal at the Brazilian steakhouse looks delicious. I wonder if I’ve ever tried Dandelion & burdock drink. Fresh eggs are the best.

  6. Glad you had a lovely time going out for a meal for your cousin’s birthday – the salad bar selection looks delicious. That’s such a beautiful poem of Daisy’s – well done to her on having her poem published and to Jake on his SATs results. Good luck to Chris with the bee-keeping. Lovely to have super-fresh eggs. Hope you’re feeling a little cooler this week. #project365
