Frugal Food Challenge

In June we have decided to step up our frugal efforts a level and focus on food, I think this is where our money-saving endeavours fall short so it seems like the best place to start a challenge. We will be embarking on a frugal food challenge.

Cut The Crap

One of our biggest downfalls when it comes to trying to live a budget/money-saving life is spending too much on junk food, mainly chocolate. Not only is this having an impact on our budget it’s also causing some of the health problems I’ve been suffering lately so it seems a no-brainer to wean myself off those sugars and nasty’s.

I’ve challenged myself to ‘no chocolate’ months before and have been successful but this month I want to cut out all the crap, which means no takeaways, crisps, biscuits, sweeties or chocolate for the whole month of June.

It will be interesting to see what impact this has on our budget, my moods will also be quite interesting too (sugar addict much?).

Waste Nothing

I’m going to plan our meals and shopping list better so I know exactly what we need for each meal, I don’t like food waste but we do seem to still throw a few things away each week.

I’ve already started buying loose fruit and vegetables which is helping so I will continue to do this.

Repeat Repeat Repeat

One of my big frustrations is trying to think of different meals to cook each week, this seems so silly when I think about it,  as much as it’s nice to try something new every so often we know what we like so this month we will be having the same meals each week, this should make meal planning so much easier.

All of the above should have a significant impact on our budget and our waistlines hopefully, I will be back at the end of June with an update and I will have to think of a frugal challenge for July.
