Things I’ve Learned In My 30’s

Next month I turn 39 and I will officially be ‘pushing 40’ as they say. I don’t know why but lately I’ve been thinking about everything I’ve done in my life so far and of course what I would like to achieve going in to my 40’s. I thought it would be nice to share some pearls of wisdom and tell you some things I have learned in my 30’s.

It’s none of your business!

I’ve learnt that what other people think of me is truly none of my business.

Self-worth

I’ve learned that I’m not defined by a number on the scales, what I look like or how clever I am.

Dry shampoo

I’ve learned that dry shampoo is my best friend.

Happiness

I’ve learned that happiness comes from within and that it’s a choice that we all have to make.

Love

I’ve learned what love is and what it isn’t. I’ve learned that you can fall out of love and that you can find true unconditional love that will last a lifetime, but most importantly I’ve learned to love myself.

People

I’ve learned that you can’t change anyone except yourself, if someone treats you terribly then walk away, no in fact run!

Ironing

I’ve learned it’s a total waste of time, I’ve not been arrested for crimes against creases yet.

Strength

I’ve learned that I’m so much stronger than I ever knew or believed.

Knowledge

I’ve learned that it’s never too late to open your mind to learning.

The Past

I’ve learned that the past does not define you at all, that you can move on and move past mistakes and bad memories and that you can close the door and never look back.

Comfort

I’ve learnt that comfort wins over style every time, hello joggers and flats.

Comparison

I’ve learned that comparing myself or my life to anyone else’s is totally pointless, comparison is the thief of joy.

Luck

I’ve learned that you make your own luck in this life, if you work harder and smarter then luck will soon follow.

Confidence

I’ve learned that when it comes to being confident you can fake it till you make it.

The small things

Most importantly I’ve learned that life is all about the moments we experience and share with others, the small things are the things you should cherish the most.

  1. This is brilliant! All very wise words of wisdom. I hate the reflective stage when you reach a birthday. I often find myself on anxiety tablets when it nears my birthday! Haha!

Totally love the ironing point. I’ve only done the ironing once in about a year, and it was only because I forgot to take the clothes out of the drier when they were still warm!

The learning one I struggle with. I’m 21, and already feel as though I’ve missed my opportunity to try something new.

  2. I still use Head and Shoulders, but can relate to everything else on this list. I’ll be 43 in a few weeks, and it really is refreshing to not care so much about all these little things #tuesdaytreasures
