Even though we still have one more week to go until the school holidays, this week has been a busy one. I’ve used busy as my word quite a few times now, so I’ve gone with hectic instead.
School
I was expecting next week to be a busy one, with it being the final week of term before the school holidays, but not this week. It’s felt hectic with emails and texts arriving from school, with even more events and dates to add to my planner.
Daisy had a day at one of the local colleges at an activity day being run by Oxford University. She had a brilliant time learning about STEM subjects, experiencing a planetarium and eating ice cream. Maths and science are her favourite subjects, so this was a great way for her to spend the day.
Daisy has also had sports day this week, which she wasn’t as excited about. Parents aren’t invited to the sports day at the high school, so it’s a very different experience from primary school.
Jake performed in a school production on Wednesday. It was a comedy western, and he played Dr. Cornelius Spooner, a con man who sells laxative disguised as a miracle cure. I was very proud of him, as this was way out of his comfort zone; he doesn’t usually enjoy performing, but he did brilliantly.
He came home with a timetable for the final two weeks, which has been helpful. I’ve been able to check every morning exactly what he needs for the day.
Dates
As I mentioned, my planner is filling up with school events, but also with dates and appointments for the next month. I thought once school finished, it would be nice and chilled, but it looks like the next couple of weeks will be hectic.
I’ve accidentally ended up with an unplanned dentist appointment (don’t ask!) on the same day as a blood test. I will have to get my bike out twice that day to make the appointments, fingers crossed for some extra energy.
In Other News
I feel like this week has passed in the blink of an eye, that’s probably in part due to how busy it has been. I’ve started using an extra notebook to keep track of my daily activities in an effort to improve my short-term memory. I’m not sure if it’s age, peri-menopause or stress, but my short-term memory has been shocking lately. It’s working well so far, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner.
The weather has been a lot cooler this week, thankfully. It was warm on Monday, but by the evening, we had some rain and thunder that seemed to clear the air. It’s been nice to walk Indie again in the mornings.
The usual blogging, entering competitions and completing surveys and market research applications have happened in between the busyness. My reading mojo is back, I’m reading Found by Erin Kinsley and listening to Nettle and Bone by T.Kingfisher, and I’m really enjoying them both.
How has your week been? I would love to hear about it.
I’m linking up with Anne from Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.

The end of term is certainly a hectic time isn’t it! Glad Daisy enjoyed the STEM activity day. Well done to Jake for stepping out of his comfort zone and performing so well in the school production. I find writing things down each day helpful too. I definitely would forget most things if I didn’t put them on the calendar or to-do list straight away. I’m blaming peri-menopause for that one. Glad you’ve got your reading mojo back. It has been nice to have slightly cooler weather this week. #WotW
Ahh! I used to love and hate this time of the school year, so many memories made but so busy too!
It sounds like Daisy had a great time at the local college. I used to miss going to the sports day when my girls were in secondary school. It certainly is less fun without the parents watching.
hahaha! Jacobs school productions sounds great and his character so funny!
It sounds like your notebook is coming in handy! I feel the same with my memory and I am putting it down to peri-menopause.
