Every Friday I share five frugal things that I’ve done to save or make money. I believe that a frugal lifestyle is an individual thing and there is no right or wrong way of going about it. From the smallest of savings to the greatest it all adds up and contributes to us living the life that we want for less.
Five Frugal Things
- We had a discounted visit to the cinema this week thanks to Compare the Market’s Meerkat offer app. Both Chris and I purchased insurance separately so we both have access to a year of 2 for 1 cinema tickets (selected days) and half-price pizza. Using the offer we paid £11.98 for four cinema tickets which is such a huge saving.
Snacks and drinks were purchased in advance from Aldi and cost us just under £8 for all four of us. The mark up on food and drink at the cinema is much more than I am willing to pay.
2. I got two Argos e-gift cards and some Uber Eats credit for completing some really easy tasks. I spotted a great offer on an Instagram page this week, I could get a £5 e-gift card of my choice by signing up to the Lloyds Pharmacy website free. The offer has now ended I think.
The second e-gift card came from a really quick survey I did through an advert on Facebook. Sometimes algorithms are really useful, searching for money-saving and money-making really paid off.
The £5 Uber credit came from predicting the weekly football scores on the Weekly7 website. This is totally free and the credit is added immediately and you have seven days to use it.
3. My husband has been off work on holiday this week and we have had a nice balance of paid-for activities and free fun. We enjoyed an afternoon of board games followed by a movie. The snacks were all free thanks to the cashback apps like Shopmium and a prize bundle of sweets that I won in a competition.
We have also been to the park and just generally enjoyed our time together as a family.
4. We enjoyed a delicious barbecue at home using food that we either got for free or heavily reduced. The buns and rolls were free from Olio and the burgers and sausages were yellow sticker bargains.
5. I have been trying really hard to make sure that we use up every scrap of food, food waste has been my focus. Each morning I have been checking the fridge to see what needs to be used up and planning our lunches and teas around that. Some of the meals have been interesting, to say the least, but I’m happy to be avoiding food waste and saving money at the same time.
