For many homeowners, curb appeal matters. Not only do they want their home to be in the same style as the remainder of the neighbourhood, but they also want to be able to come home from work and have the satisfaction that their home looks beautiful. There’s nothing wrong with taking a little pride in the space in which you live, and if you’re trying to sell or you want to maximise your property value, curb appeal really is going to matter. 

One of the best ways to make sure that you are optimising the curb appeal of your house is to look at the way your driveway looks from the outside. You have to remember that it’s not just the building that people are looking at, but the flyover carport and whether or not you have gravel or a tarmac drive. Making your driveway look fantastic is important if you want to attract the right buyers with the right price on their cheque books. With this in mind, here are some ways to make your driveway look great.

• Decorate it. Decorative rocks can be added to your driveway to make you look fantastic. A rock garden added to your landscaping really can draw the eye in a positive way. If the stones are made of materials that are contrasting with the pavement such as black lava gravel, your whole driveway will stand out in a great way. Where there are weeds growing or lawns or gardens, and decorative rocks are another option for keeping them under control.

• Make it low maintenance. Instead of having a muddy, lawn-covered driveway, why not make it low maintenance with just flowers and bushes on the sides? Plants at the sides of the driveway can soften the hard lines, just make sure that they are far enough away that you won’t run over them when you are pulling into your own driveway. If you have planted trees at either end of the driveway, you’re going to find that trees soften the whole look and don’t make it look so plain.

• Paint or seal the driveway concrete. If you have a concrete driveway and it’s been damaged which does happen over time, get some sealant that is used for driveways and apply it by hand. You could use a power sprayer, but either way, once you’ve got the sealant on, you can add some paint to change the way that it looks. Concrete ceilings can come in a range of colours, too.

• add a fountain. When we look at the overall picture of your front yards, what makes your driveway look good? The fountain can help it to stand out and you can have the fountain off to one side so it doesn’t impact away you are going to be driving in and out of every single day. Bonus tip: get some lights to uplight the fountain and make it stand out.
