Every Month I share five frugal things that I’ve done to save or make money. I believe that a frugal lifestyle is an individual thing and there is no right or wrong way of going about it. From the smallest of savings to the greatest it all adds up and contributes to us living the life that we want for less.
FIVE FRUGAL THINGS
- I picked up some clothing bargains for my son from the charity shop. He was in need of hoodies and jumpers and I found three for 50p each. One was a lovely GAP zip-up hoodie and the other two were from Next. It can sometimes be difficult to find older kids clothing in good condition second-hand but I got lucky this time.
2. We enjoyed a free morning out at Sea Life Manchester thanks to winning tickets in a recent Cadbury competition. I packed some sandwiches for in the car on the way home to save even more money. I have won more tickets in the same competition including Alton Towers, Legoland and Cadbury World so lots of free adventures for next year too.
3. Thanks to the milder weather this month we haven’t had to switch the heating on very much at all. I’ve been using my own tips from a previous blog post and made full use of blankets and warm drinks. I also spotted that my energy supplier has free electricity events coming up so I’ve marked those dates and times in my diary.
4. I’ve had another successful month of sticking to a meal plan. The menu is very simple and there are lots of repeating meals but it’s working really well for us. It’s taken so much stress out of my day, everyone knows what is for tea and it’s helped reduce waste as well as spending.
5. I set myself a £25 budget for a little Halloween party at home and stuck to it. Of course, with so many delicious treats available it was hard to avoid temptation but I did it. We love Halloween even more than Christmas but it can definitely get expensive quickly. I really believe that you celebrate these occasions while being frugal at the same time.
What frugal things have you done this month? Leave me a comment I’d love to hear from you.
What great bargains from the charity shop and well done with winning the tickets to Sea Life.
We’ve had the heating on a couple of times over the last few weeks but not as much as usual at this time of year. I love the free electricity events, I always save all my washing to do then. x
