Wednesday Hodgepodge

It’s Wednesday again, and that means it’s time to answer some fun and interesting questions posed by Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. Here are my answers for this week’s Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1. March 15th is known as The Ides of March, the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C….have you ever been to Rome? If so what did you love most about the city? If not, is this a place you’d like to visit?

I have never been to Rome, but I would like to visit in the future. History of any kind fascinates me, so I would love to take a historic sightseeing trip to Rome. I would love to visit the Colosseum and the Pantheon to learn more about these historical buildings, but I would also really like to see the Sistine Chapel to admire its beauty.

2. ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day.’ What project/activity/improvement (of any kind) do you have going on right now to which this saying might be applied?

Over the last twelve months, I’ve been working on healing from past trauma. Progress can sometimes seem slow, so I often remind myself that Rome wasn’t built in a day. It’s a great saying as it really puts things into perspective and makes you realise that magnificent things take time to build.

3. Let’s do a little this or that with some Italian foods…

  • Caprese salad or Prosciutto with melon? Caprese Salad

  • Bruschetta or Antipasto? Bruschetta

  • lasagne or ravioli? Lasagne

  • bolognese or Carbonara? Carbonara

  • Risotto or gnocchi? Risotto

  • tiramisu~gelato~cannoli? Tiramisu

4. Of the colors red, white, and green which would I find most prevalent in your home? Which one do you think is most flattering to you in terms of your wardrobe? Have you ever had your colors done? Is that something you’d be interested in doing?

The first question is tricky to answer as our home doesn’t really have a prevalent colour; it’s a mishmash. If I had to choose one of those, it would be white, but that doesn’t mean it has a clean, minimal aesthetic, so to speak.

Green is definitely most flattering in terms of my wardrobe. I have dark hair and green eyes so this colour really seems to suit my complexion. I have never had my colours done, but I think it would be really interesting. I tend to wear a lot of black as I don’t feel comfortable wearing bright colours but do on occasion like reds, greens and yellows.

5. Life would be boring without____________________?

My answer for this has to be books! I can’t imagine not having anything to read. Books can be exciting, heartbreaking, educational and eye-opening. Reading books can take you on many adventures without ever having to leave your home. Life is never boring if you have a good book.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

This week’s random thought is about consuming media, in particular, the news. The world seems like a worrying place at the moment, and the news seems to confirm that. I really struggle between wanting to be informed about what’s happening in the world and wanting to know absolutely nothing. The news and issues are not going to suddenly go away if I don’t read or watch the news, but sometimes I just need a break from it all.

There are so many conflicting opinions about whether we should stay informed or disconnect. I got this book from the library recently, and I’m hoping it will give me a different perspective on the issue.

  1. I can’t believe I didn’t think of books when answering that question, because I agree with you! You can travel the world when you are reading. Your bookshelves are so neat! I need you to come over and clean and organize mine, please 🙂 I hope you are having a great week!

  2. Books is a great answer…I so agree! I think many of us feel conflicted about how much ‘news’ is too much. I try to really limit my intake to knowing what’s happening but not hearing what everyone and their brother think about it all. Social media is hard right now. Also everyone is so vocal about which ‘side’ of things they’re on and with that comes a lot of judgement. It’s exhausting. I’ll be curious to know what you think of the book. Hope you have a great day!

  3. I would love to visit Rome, I am not usually that interested in history but Rome is something special.
I have read about people having their colours done and it seems so interesting. I wear a lot of red and have a lot in my home.
I love your bookshelves, they are so organised and pretty too. x

  4. Love your bookshelves. I agree about the news – part of me wants to keep myself informed but part of me can’t bear to hear about all the chaos.

  5. Books is a great answer, and I’m honestly disappointed in myself for not including that in my answer! I love your bookshelves too. Kudos to you on sticking with the healing process and giving yourself the time you need to heal well. I think the right balance of staying informed and disconnecting is different for everyone, and often different depending on where we are personally. Sometimes I have more than enough going on personally that I don’t have the bandwidth for national news at all, while other times I’m happy staying informed and involved at a much higher level. Having constant media is hard to manage though – looks like you’ve found an interesting book for perspective on it. Hope you’re having a great week!
