Word Of The Week-Transition

Word Of The Week-Transition

Like a lot of year 6 primary school pupils, Jake has had two transition days at his new high school this week. The reality that in just three weeks, he will no longer be in primary school has started to hit home. It’s got me thinking about all the changes that come with that transition, not only for Jake but for me too.

Transition Days

Jake spent two days at his new high school on Wednesday and Thursday this week. He had absolutely no nerves about going and was looking forward to it. I met his form tutor last week, and she’s really nice; she teaches creative writing to Daisy as well.

He had a great time, getting a taste of high school life. He got to do a science and maths lesson, which he was delighted with. I’m so glad that he enjoyed it, and it’s made me feel more confident that he’s ready for the change.

End Of An Era

With high school on the horizon, it’s got me thinking about how primary school won’t be a part of our lives any more. The kids have both had a brilliant experience of primary school. I’m very grateful for the way the teachers have nurtured and taught the kids. It’s going to feel really strange with it not being part of our day-to-day.

I think I’m feeling more emotional about the transition because we are saying goodbye to primary school life. That and the fact that Jake is my youngest child, and the last one to leave.

New Routines

In September, there will be new routines to implement. Jake will start school earlier, so that means an earlier wake-up time. Daisy has her morning routine locked in, but I think Jake will need some encouragement to get himself organised.

The new routine means I can walk Indie earlier, which I’m quite looking forward to. I enjoy the peace and quiet of avoiding the school run and being back home for a coffee before nine.

Busy

The next few weeks are looking busy, with school events and appointments. I think the time is going to fly even quicker with a packed schedule. How we got to this point in the year already, I do not know. I’m looking forward to spending lots of time with the kids over the summer holidays and living life at a slower pace for a while.

I’m linking up with Anne from Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.
