Jersey is a beautiful place to visit as a family, there’s something for all ages to enjoy. On our recent trip, we explored some great family-friendly places. If you ever visit the island I can highly recommend the following four places.

Jersey Zoo

Jersey Zoo is an amazing place for families to visit. Set on 32 acres of land, the zoo looks after over 100 species of animals. The zoo was founded in 1952 by writer and naturalist Gerald Durrell and is a sanctuary, captive breeding and research centre. From mammals to amphibians, play areas to apple orchards, there really is something for everyone.

The zoo itself is beautifully maintained, and the enclosures are spacious and well-designed with the animal’s comfort and safety in mind.

The kids enjoyed learning all about Gerald Durrell and his efforts to save animals from extinction. The zoo’s logo is the Dodo which serves as a reminder about the dangers of extinction and the importance of conservation.

We saw so many animals at the zoo but our particular favourites were the Andean bears and the tortoises. The kids were fascinated with the tortoises, they were huge and not as slow as the kids imagined they would be. It’s wonderful to see so many thriving at the zoo.

The gorillas were fascinating to watch, there’s a huge silverback and lots of playful youngsters. There are also orangutans, lemurs and tamarin.

There’s a really good children’s play area complete with a sandpit if you fancy a rest while the kids burn some energy off. There is also a cafe at the entrance or the Dodo restaurant if you fancy something a little more substantial.

See the Jersey Zoo website for opening times and more information.

Tamba Park

Tamba Park has something for everyone, there’s an adventure playground, Dino Trail, trampolines, a boating lake, an indoor rainforest-themed play park and so much more.

We absolutely loved this park, the kids had an amazing time both indoors and outdoors. The highlight for me was a huge CCTV screen so you could keep an eye on your kids in the rainforest play park while you sat down and had a cup of coffee.

Outside we found some giant garden games, crazy golf, trampolines and a huge boating lake. There are extra charges for some of the attractions but with entry being so reasonably priced this is understandable.

Our favourite attraction at the park was the Dino Trail, lots of the dinosaurs are animated and their roars are frighteningly real.

aMaizin! Adventure Park

aMaizin Adventure Park is Jersey’s award-winning park. There’s indoor and outdoor fun, animals, tractor rides and tons of other great attractions. Everything is included in the price, you can stay all day and use the attractions as much as you like.

We were hugely impressed with the whole park, unfortunately, we didn’t get to use as many of the attractions as we wanted to as it was raining heavily. The kids spent almost two hours playing inside in the well-equipped and cleverly thought-out indoor play area.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch and free Wi-Fi while the kids happily played. The whole area was very clean and well-kept and the staff were super friendly too.

With a break in the rain, we headed outdoors where we panned for gold and had a look at some farm animals.

I spotted lots of great activities like a jumping pillow, go-karts, a towering toboggan and a maize maze. We will definitely be visiting again next time we come to Jersey, the whole park is excellent value for money. I think we could quite happily have stayed all day if we had more time and a drier day.

Mont Orgueil Castle

Mont Orgueil is by far the best castle I have ever visited. This 800-year-old medieval castle is rich in history and absolutely stunning.

There are secret rooms, twisting staircases and the most magnificent views of the coast of France. As you make your way through the castle you can learn all about its history through the commissioned artwork.

The kids loved climbing the staircases and discovering all the hidden rooms in the castle. There are lots of things to look out for like the Dance of Death statue hidden within the castle, the Wheel of Urine (yes really), the staircase down to the witches of hell and lots more.

There were so many other places we would have loved to explore but we sadly ran out of time. The Visit Jersey website is packed with information about the island and its many attractions. It’s well worth a visit if you are planning a holiday.
