Changing With The Seasons: How To Adapt Your Bedroom From Winter To Summer

During a season, our interior décor can really influence our mood. That’s why it’s always a good idea to swap out certain things in your interior space so they complement the great outdoors.

After all, nothing’s worse than needing to snuggle up in the cold winter months in a bright airy room that lacks any cosiness – and vice versa.

So, let’s start with some simple changes you can make in your bedroom:

Change Your Bed Linen

That high-tog duvet may be a welcome relief during the cool winter months, but it’s not going to help provide you with a good night’s sleep when things heat up – so start by changing this for a low tog (1.5 to 4.5 tog is normally ideal).

You might also want to think about changing the style of your bedding. Warm, rustic designs are great for winter, but fresh, bright styles are more suited to summer. For example, white bedding is ideal for creating a light, airy feel, which is just what you need when it’s a hot and sticky night.

Stow Away Rugs and Other Cosy Accessories

Those warm, fluffy rugs and gorgeous throws you introduce in winter are the perfect accessories, but when you’re trying to create a cooling environment to sleep in, they’re not ideal. Simply store them away until the temperatures start to dip again (which, as we all know, they will be doing all too soon!).
Change Your Curtains and/or Blinds
Sunlight is a precious commodity during the winter, but as much as we love it in the summer, it can soon become a nuisance – especially when you’re trying to get some much-needed shuteye. That’s why blackout blinds or curtains are often a good idea. Available in a plethora of designs from companies like Direct Blinds, you can complement your interior space while still achieving perfect darkness, regardless of the time of day. I find these are particularly helpful in kids’ bedrooms!

Add a Splash of Paint

You needn’t break the bank when you’re injecting new life into your home this summer. Rather, it’s these simple changes that can make the world of difference.

For example, a fresh coat of paint will brighten up your room no end – even if you don’t change the colour. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a new colour can totally transform the room without spending a fortune.
As you can see, changing your rooms with the seasons not only allows you to create the best environment in your home but also gives you the perfect excuse to have a design overhaul – without throwing anything out!
