It’s the final Wednesday of February, I’m not quite sure how we are almost at the end of the month already! It’s time to share some answers to the fun Wednesday Hodgepodge questions set by Joyce at From This Side of the Pond.
1. February 26th is National Tell A Fairy Tale Day…have you read a fairy tale lately? What’s your favourite fairy tale? Do you believe in ‘happily ever after’?
This question is right up my street as I love fairy tales, they are the reason I love reading so much. As a child, I would devour every fairy tale book I had over and over again. I collect vintage Ladybird books that I used to own as a child.
The most recent fairy tale I read was The Ugly Duckling but my absolute favourite fairy tale of all is Rumpelstiltskin. It’s a Brothers Grimm story and in my opinion, they wrote the best collection of fairy tales.
I do believe in happily ever after but I don’t think that means it ends with a knight in shining armour rescuing the damsel. We decide what our happily ever after is and spend our life working towards whatever that looks like for us.
2. Complete one of the following sentences with a thought relating to your life currently-
I went with all three as I thought it would be fun to answer each one.
- Once upon a time___________there was a woman who spent a little too much time and money buying treasures from the charity shops.
- A long time ago________________I never would have imagined how good life would be to me.
- In a place far far away__________there is a completely empty to-do list and laundry basket.
3. Which of the following ‘fairy tale foods’ is your favourite? Which have you made/eaten most recently?
porridge/oatmeal (Goldilocks and The Three Bears), an apple (Snow White), a gingerbread cookie (The Gingerbread Man), pumpkin soup/pie/bread (Cinderella), peas (The Princess and the Pea), beans (Jack and The Beanstalk) or a cup of tea (Alice in Wonderland)
My favourite fairy tale food is a gingerbread cookie, the kids made some the week before Christmas. They didn’t quite go to plan as you can see in the photo below but they did give us a chuckle. They did taste delicious though.
4. What’s your idea of fun?
My idea of fun is spending time with my people, laughing about silly things, playing a board or a card game and eating our favourite snacks.
5. Next week’s Hodgepodge lands in March. Is that right? I guess so. Give us one noun, one verb, and one adjective that tells us something about your February. To make you think a little harder, you cannot use the words cold or snowy.
One noun to describe February is Memories.
One verb to describe February is Appreciate.
One adjective to describe February is Quick.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I recently downloaded the BBC Sounds app and I’m really enjoying it. I’d become very fed up with the increasing adverts during the podcasts that I like to listen to. The podcasts on the Sounds app don’t have commercial adverts just ones that tell you about related shows you might be interested in which I don’t mind.
Of course I understand the need for podcasts to accept sponsored content and adverts. I just feel that the adverts are becoming too many and not really relevant to the genre of podcast I’m listening to.
Ahh! I forgot all about Rumpelstiltskin, I used to love that story.
hehehe! Your completed sentences did make me chuckle! I dream of an empty to do list. x
You really do like fairy tales! I realized when answering the question that I don’t really have a strong favorite. I like most of them it’s not something that I feel strongly about. Your gingerbread cookies are cute! An underrated cookie if there ever was one :). Have a great day!
Ah yes…in a place far far away : ) I have always loved fairy tales too and agree Grimms are the best. Hope you have a great day!
The fairy tale question is timely in so much as we now have a fox roaming our neighborhood and I dubbed him Foxy Loxy, of Chicken Little fame, which is, as far as I can tell, a fairy tale!
That stack of books look interesting. I chuckled at your once upon a time.
