Word Of The Week – Blogging

This week has been all about blogging. Last weekend I went to Blog On which is a conference for blogger that takes place twice a year. I think this was my fourth time attending but for some reason this time I’ve come away absolutely buzzing with inspiration.

This summer marked five years of blogging for me, I can’t believe I’m still at it all these years later. I’ve changed direction so many times but one thing that’s never changed is my love of the written word. I don’t really write anything life-changing but that’s fine, I enjoy blogging about our family and the fun things we get to experience. When the kids grow up they have this whole catalogue of things they did to look back on.

Blogging is an ever evolving beast, there is so much to learn and always lots to do. The beauty is that a blog can be whatever you want it to be but I think lots of us that do it get ourselves stuck in a rut. I know that I’ve definitely been limiting myself and putting obstacles in my own way lately.

I attended two sessions at Blog On that finally made things click into place for me. One of those sessions was run by Cerys Parker who blogs at Rainy Day Mum and runs The Blog Surgery. The session was all about SEO and monetisation and was an absolute eye opener. I could kick myself for not learning these things sooner and have spent most of the week updating and improving old blog posts.

The other session was all about working with the toy industry as a blogger by Vicki Martin-Hausen from Elmer Marketing. Over the years we have done so many toy reviews which the kids have loved, lately though I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired. I’ve had ideas of things I would like to do to make our reviews a little more interesting and engaging and this session confirmed that I’m on the right track.

I’m so glad my passion for blogging has been reignited, I just need more hours in the day now to work on it.

You might enjoy my previous word of the week post, Lost.

  1. There is nothing like a good blog conference to make you feel inspired to work on your blogging again. There is always something new to learn, no matter how long you’ve been around.
