Five Frugal Things I’ve Done This Week {13.8.21}

Every Friday I share five frugal things that I’ve done to save or make money. I believe that a frugal lifestyle is an individual thing and there is no right or wrong way of going about it. From the smallest of savings to the greatest it all adds up and contributes to us living the life that we want for less.

Five Frugal Things

  1. I have added a couple more money-saving and money-making apps to my phone again this week. I’m really enjoying testing them and seeing if they actually work and so far so good. Here’s what I added this week

Airtime Rewards– a loyalty reward app that gives you a percentage of your purchases back to spend towards your phone bill. You simply link up your debit or credit cards and are automatically rewarded each time you make a purchase at any of the featured retailers. My referral code is Y6VYNA7E you can get an extra £1 if you make a purchase within 7 days of signing up.

Snap My Eats! – this is a receipt scanning app where you can earn points towards redeeming gift cards. I’m only just learning how to use this so will report back once I’ve got to grips with it.

2. It’s been another good week for free food which means I’ve been able to save on grocery spending again. A lady from Olio was having a cupboard clear-out and offered some tinned food. I find tins great for quick lunch and meals and always try to have a good stock on hand. The soups are good for my lunches and the other tins I can add to meals to bulk them out.

I also used the Shopmium app to claim a free 4 pack of Fruit Shoots which came in handy when my daughter had a playdate this week.

My brother also brought me some bread rolls and bagels from the local free food hub. These will be perfect for taking on picnics next week, I’ve popped them into the freezer and will defrost them as we need them.

3. Vouchers and discounts have been used this week against footwear for myself and the kids. I needed a good pair of wellington boots for taking the dog on walks, the field we use can get incredibly muddy and I was fed up with getting wet feet. I ordered from a website as a new customer and got 20% off my first purchase which made them £10 cheaper.

The kids needed new school shoes and I believe in buying good quality as they last longer making them more cost-effective overall.  To reduce the cost I redeemed some gift cards from the paid survey websites I use. The gift cards made the shoes much more affordable so it’s well worth taking the time to complete surveys each day.

4. A sample box full of goodies arrived from Triyit Sampling this week, I love getting free things in the mail. I will need to do a quick review of each thing and there’s also a chance to win prizes too. This is about the fourth box I’ve received from them and it’s always good fun to take part. I definitely recommend signing up if you like free samples.

I also got some samples from an app I recently downloaded called Personal Perks. I had been a little worried that they wouldn’t arrive as they were despatched almost two weeks ago. Again, I need to leave a small review in exchange for the samples. I do have a referral code for this so do let me know if you want it.

5.  I used eBay to sell a football shirt that I won as part of a hamper prize so that’s some extra money towards one of my savings goals.
