Every Friday I share five frugal things that I’ve done to save or make money. I believe that a frugal lifestyle is an individual thing and there is no right or wrong way of going about it. From the smallest of savings to the greatest it all adds up and contributes to us living the life that we want for less.
Five Frugal Things
1 ) I took an inventory of medicines, toiletries, cleaning products and things like batteries so I know exactly what we have. I keep overbuying certain items and I’m trying to avoid this by being more organised. Every penny counts at the moment when grocery shopping.
2) I’ve been focussing on saving electricity this week. Our energy provider has a breakdown of our daily usage on their website which is really helpful. It’s very obvious on days that I use the washing machine and the tumble dryer, the cost shoots right up. To combat this I have been line drying and washing only when I have a full load.
I also wrote a blog post about how to stay cool this summer without using any electricity, I’ve been implementing these tips myself this week.
3) I cancelled my Audible subscription and have decided to use the Libby service more. It’s tempting to only want to listen to new releases but for free I can listen to some older publications that I never would have looked at previously.
4) The prizes continue to trickle in, this week I had two winning emails. I won a book that the kids will love and a craft kit that will be fantastic to do in the summer holidays.
5) The kids were treated to a cinema trip with their big sister so I made them some cheaper and probably tastier pick’n’mix to take with them. I bought a few bags of jelly sweets and chocolates from Aldi, the total cost was around £3.50 which is what you would usually pay for a smaller tub at the cinema per child.
