Every Friday I share five frugal things that I’ve done to save or make money. I believe that a frugal lifestyle is an individual thing and there is no right or wrong way of going about it. From the smallest of savings to the greatest it all adds up and contributes to us living the life that we want for less.
Five Frugal Things
- I got a free two-month subscription to Apple Music so I decided to cancel Amazon Prime saving myself £7.99 per month. We mainly use Amazon for music nowadays so I thought the money saved for swapping was worth it.
2. I’ve made a list of things I would like to find for free and have been searching Freecycle and Freegle/Trash Nothing daily. Books are always top of the list as we are all avid readers in this house. A lady was giving away a bundle of kids books and I spotted lots of Captain Underpants in amongst it. Jake loves Captain Underpants so this lot will keep him going all summer.
I’m very selective about what I bring into the house these days after spending months doing a thorough declutter. I do find it handy to keep a list of household items or specific clothes we need on my phone in case anything comes up for free.
3. I used the Shopmium cashback app again this week to get some (almost) free products. The pizzas were completely free and the cat food worked out at 37p after cashback and a £1 coupon from the current Tesco magazine.
Claiming two cashback offers triggered another special offer on Shopmium this week which gave me a free pack of Oreo’s. I’m doing really well for free snacks this month which is so helpful with it being the school summer holidays.
If you are not already a member of Shopmium and would like to join you can use my referral code KMFEUAMT to get yourself a free tube of pringles.
4. A couple of wins from competitions arrived this week in including a £50 voucher to spend at a charity shop. If ever there was a prize made for me it is this one, I love charity shops and finding second-hand bargains. I’m planning to visit in August and stock up on clothes and books for autumn and winter.
This delicious hamper of goodies arrived much to everyone’s delight. We will not be short of treats this summer holidays. It also included a Scotland football top and a stadium tour.
I also won a couple of National Trust day passes so that’s some free trips out sorted for the summer holidays.
5. This week I have completed lots of paid surveys and I’ve also been searching for other money-making opportunities. My Christmas savings are filling up nicely.
I’m following a lot of frugal and money-saving accounts on Instagram and they often share really good referral deals. This week I spotted an offer where if I deposited £1 into an app called Ziglu and exchanged it for bitcoin they would credit my account with £10 which I was able to withdraw straight away. A family member then used my referral code so I ended up making £20 in total from that and I now own some bitcoin.
The £10 offer from Ziglu may have ended now I think but you can still get £5 for free if you use my referral, deposit £1 and exchange for bitcoin. If you would like me to refer you let me know in the comments.
I also used a referral that got me some free cryptocurrency on another app called Zumo. I have five more referral codes left so let me know if you would like one.
I’m really enjoying learning about investing and trying these low risk offers to test the waters.
