There was serious excitement last week when an Anki Overdrive Starter Kit arrived for us to review. Anki Overdrive is an intelligent battle racing game which features robotic cars. You race using your smartphone or tablet which makes it a unique fast-paced fully interactive experience.

The starter kit comes with 10 Anki Overdrive magnetic track pieces which you can build into 8 different battlefields in just seconds. It also comes with 2 robotic supercars and a 4 car charging system. There is also a tire cleaner included.

The track is super simple to set up and the cars take about 8 minutes to charge which then gives you around 20 minutes of play.

You will need to download the free Anki app onto a Kindle, iOS or Android device to begin. Once you have built the track the app will take care of everything else for you. Each supercar is a self-aware robot, driven by powerful artificial intelligence. They each have a deadly strategy, whatever track you build they will learn it.

One of the main things I love about the Anki Overdrive is that you can play against the AI Characters or you can challenge someone to a battle.

The instructions are easy to follow and you are ready to play in seconds. I love that it’s something that I can enjoy with the kids too. It’s fun for all of the family to play together, we had a great time cheering each other on. Of course, there was some friendly rivalry as well.

Jake and I teamed up against Daddy and Daisy. It was a brilliant way to bond and have some competitive fun together.

I’m in absolute awe at how clever the Anki Overdrive is. There’s so much you can do with it. As your game improves the better the cars become. You can customise weapons, swap our cars and build new tracks and continuous software updates means that the gameplay always stays fresh.

The Track is durable and flexible, Daddy and Daisy had lots of fun creating hills and jumps with the aid of some handy Lego from the toy box, and the cars handled the impromptu track changes perfectly. The track is also expandable, all you need is to buy more track pieces and you can expand your track. The possibilities are unlimited.

The tracks can accommodate up to four vehicles simultaneously. There are Supercars, Supertrucks and even your favourite cars from “The Fast and The Furious” movies available separately.

The game is recommended for ages 8+ but with adult supervision, it’s easy for younger players as well. Daisy and Jake picked the game up really quickly. It’s quick and simple to learn how to play.
