Five Frugal Things I’ve Done This Week {22.10.21}

Every Friday I share five frugal things that I’ve done to save or make money. I believe that a frugal lifestyle is an individual thing and there is no right or wrong way of going about it. From the smallest of savings to the greatest it all adds up and contributes to us living the life that we want for less.

Five Frugal Things

  1.  With the sharply rising costs of groceries, it’s been a challenge to keep the food budget under control. I have been changing up which stores I’ve been shopping at each week to make the most of the deals and offers. My friend told me about a new app called Trolley which is a comparison website for thousands of brands and products in supermarkets and shops across the UK. I’ve found the app really useful for planning which store has the cheapest deals each week saving me money in the process.

2. I used to really enjoy applying for freebies and samples, in fact, it’s how I found the frugal and money-saving community. I’ve recently started searching for freebies again and am loving receiving samples in the mail. A lot of perfume samples have been arriving and they have been the spray vials as opposed to a scented piece of paper much to my delight. Each vial contains at least a few days’ worth of perfume which is great.

I’ve also received a hair masque, skin cream, and snack bar samples this month.

3. We have been more mindful about using the car for smaller journeys that we could easily make on foot. With fuel prices rising and availability issues, it seems like a great time to reassess the unnecessary trips we make by car. A bonus to using the car less is that it encourages us to get out and walk more so it has health benefits as well as money-saving benefits too.

4. TopCashback is offering £2 cashback when you spend £2 or more on a pumpkin which means you can pick one up totally free. They have offered this for a few years running now and I always take advantage as we each like to carve a pumpkin. We make soup and roast the seeds so none of it goes to waste either.

5. I’ve started to add one or two items that will be put away for Christmas each time I go to the shop. They are only small items usually a pound or two but doing it this way will hopefully spread the cost and save us some money as prices continue to increase and stock availability becomes an issue.
