Five Frugal Things I’ve Done This Week {3.9.21}

Every Friday I share five frugal things that I’ve done to save or make money. I believe that a frugal lifestyle is an individual thing and there is no right or wrong way of going about it. From the smallest of savings to the greatest it all adds up and contributes to us living the life that we want for less.

Five Frugal Things

  1. In preparation for a no-spend month, I have taken inventory of all the food, cleaning products, toiletries and pet food that we already have in. My plan is to use up what we already have to hand, then create a rolling menu of simple low-cost meals for the rest of the month.

Food is the main area that I overspend on each month so I’m hoping this challenge helps create better habits.

2. Although there are still some warm days forecast here in the UK I’ve been thinking about the colder months ahead. I spent some time sorting through all of our clothes to make sure we have everything we need for the new season. Some things still fit so won’t need replacing but I’ve made a list of the things that do and will look for them either second-hand or at the best price available.

3. I used some cashback apps to get some free and heavily reduced food and drink this week. The Bulldog razor worked out totally free as it was on offer in Morrisons which is fantastic as it’s great quality. Some of the other items will be put away to add to birthday and Christmas gift hampers.

I use Shopmium (use my referral code KMFEUAMT for a free tube of Pringles), Green Jinn and Checkout Smart.

4. I have been busy completing paid surveys and looking for extra earning opportunities. I’ve challenged myself to add £100 to my Christmas sinking fund this month so my plan is to complete every survey that lands in my inbox.

There are a few survey apps I’ve been looking at so my plan is to download those this week and see how far I can get with them.

5. The mornings have definitely been on the chilly side this week and the temptation to put the heating on has been strong. I have of course resisted and instead dug out my favourite jumpers which do the job of keeping me warm perfectly.

I wrote an article with frugal ideas to keep warm without heating and I will be implementing them myself in the coming colder months.
