Valentine’s Day often revolves around romantic love, but it’s also the perfect time to celebrate the most important relationship you have—your relationship with yourself. Whether you’re single, in a relationship, or simply want to prioritise self-care, there are plenty of ways to make the day special. Here are ten ways to show yourself love this Valentine’s Day.
1. Treat Yourself to a Luxurious Breakfast
Start the day with a delicious breakfast that makes you feel pampered. Whether it’s a full English, fluffy pancakes, or avocado on sourdough toast, take the time to enjoy something indulgent. If you don’t fancy cooking, many cafés and restaurants offer special Valentine’s brunch menus—book yourself a spot and relish the experience.
2. Indulge in a Spa Day
A spa day is the ultimate act of self-love. Book yourself a treatment at a local spa or create a relaxing experience at home with a hot bath, essential oils, candles, and soothing music. Treat yourself to a facial, body scrub, or even a massage to unwind completely.
3. Buy Yourself Flowers
Who says you need to wait for someone else to buy you flowers? Pick up a bouquet of your favourite blooms from a florist or supermarket and brighten up your home. Studies show that fresh flowers can boost your mood and create a calming atmosphere.
4. Enjoy a Solo Date
Take yourself out on a date! Visit a museum, catch a film at the cinema, or book a table at your favourite restaurant. London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and other UK cities have plenty of solo-friendly experiences, from afternoon teas to theatre performances.
5. Write a Love Letter to Yourself
Take a few minutes to reflect on everything you love about yourself. Write a heartfelt letter filled with kind words, affirmations, and appreciation for your achievements. Keep it somewhere safe and reread it whenever you need a confidence boost.
6. Treat Yourself to Something Special
If there’s something you’ve been eyeing for a while—a new book, a cosy jumper, or a fancy perfume—Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to treat yourself. It doesn’t have to be expensive; it’s about choosing something that makes you happy.
7. Cook a Fancy Meal Just for You
Channel your inner chef and prepare a delicious meal just for yourself. Whether it’s a homemade pasta dish, a gourmet burger, or a decadent chocolate dessert, take the time to enjoy good food. Pair it with a nice glass of wine or a mocktail for the full experience.
8. Have a Digital Detox
Spend the day disconnected from social media and technology. Instead, focus on activities that make you feel good—reading a book, going for a walk in nature, journaling, or simply enjoying the quiet. A break from screens can do wonders for your mental well-being.
9. Try Something New
Challenge yourself to try something new—take a dance class, start a new hobby, or experiment with a creative activity like painting or baking. Many local communities offer fun workshops, from pottery making to candle crafting, that you can enjoy solo.
10. Practise Gratitude and Self-Compassion
End the day with gratitude. Reflect on the things that make you happy and the progress you’ve made in life. Practise self-compassion by reminding yourself that you are enough, just as you are.
This Valentine’s Day, make yourself a priority. Self-love isn’t just for one day—it’s an ongoing practice that helps you build confidence, resilience, and happiness. So, embrace the day with kindness and treat yourself with the love you truly deserve!
I love this! I’m already getting sick of all the sloppy romantic stuff and I’ve never celebrated Valentines Day. Just being rejected after 22 years by someone I thought loved me makes it all so icky! I do practice self love though, this is a great guide. I do a lot of these already, but I think I’ll try a little harder 🙂
Self Love is so important. Thanks for this timely post that we all need to read to remind us. #MMBC
What fab ideas! I think we all need to treat ourselves sometimes and Valentine’s day is a great excuse. x
I love this! I think we often put ourselves on the back seat when it comes to looking after ourselves. Love the idea of starting a new hobby. xx
