Week 19 of Project 365 brought a bit of everything: a lovely surprise from Chris to celebrate 15 years together (hello new plants!), a tough colitis flare-up, some quiet puzzle time, and a sunny walk among buttercups. We ended the week with Jake’s 11th birthday, complete with presents, party food, and a giant cookie.

Chris surprised me with some plants for our 15 year together anniversary. He bought me some peppers, mint, raspberries, rosemary, thyme, green beans, strawberries and lavender. I came down from an afternoon nap to find everything already potted up. Chris had done lots of research and even used copper tape to stop the slugs from eating everything.
I absolutely loved my surprise, but I’m also worried I might kill everything. I’ve wanted to grow veggies and fruit for a long time, but I always overthink and talk myself out of it. I’m going to put my fears to one side and give it my best shot.

This was my view for most of Monday. After writing about how good my health has been lately, I had an unpleasant colitis flare-up. I spent the day feeling absolutely rotten and sleeping on and off.

I felt slightly better on Tuesday but decided not to try and do too much. After doing some work, I decided to start a jigsaw, I got this one from the charity shop for £2 a few weeks ago. I like the 500-piece puzzles as I can complete them quickly, and they don’t take up too much room.

On Wednesday, I managed to potter around the house and tick some jobs off my to-do list. Top of the list was wrapping up Jake’s birthday presents for Friday. I usually ask the kids what they would like and buy that, but I’ve decided this year that the majority of the gifts will be surprises.
We have bought him some Lego sets and put some money in his birthday card so he can choose something himself as well. Daisy has bought him the first couple of books in a series that he loves.

On Thursday, I finally felt well enough to go for a walk with Indie. I was so happy to see that the buttercups have sprung up everywhere in my absence.
Once I got home, I spent the day working on my laptop and finalising some things for Jake’s birthday tomorrow.

Friday was Jake’s 11th birthday, and he got up nice and early to enjoy his presents before school. We had a little party with all his favourite foods and a delicious giant cookie for dessert, as requested by the birthday boy.

On Saturday Chris took the kids bowling, I was supposed to be going but I wasn’t well enough. They had a great time, spending some time in the arcade afterwards and getting some nachos and curly fries.
Jake couldn’t wait to get started on one of his new Lego Ninjago dragon when he came home. He has quite the collection of them, he really likes Ninjago but is showing an interest into moving on to Star Wars Lego instead.
What a star Chris is! I would be so happy with a gift of plants. Good luck with them!
Oh no! So sorry you wern’t feeling great. I hope you feel better soon.
It sounds like Jake had a great birthday! The giant cookie looks so good! x
That’s a lovely gift. I’m the same with plants (I always forget about watering them), but having them in pots makes it easier and no weeding necessary. Sounds like it was a good birthday for Jake.
Hope you are feeling better now, nothing worse than being laid low. Happy birthday Jake, hope he had a fab day. Hope your plants are doing well
Happy anniversary, and happy belated birthday to Jake!
Sorry to hear you were not feeling well. Hope you’re better now.
The plants look lovely, fingers crossed, the slugs don’t destroy anything. I have tried the copper tape on pots before, but it didn’t deter our slugs.
Lego Ninjago brings back lots of memories of Eddie watching it endlessly, we kept buying the magazine for a few years, and bought a lot of Lego too, all in bits and pieces now.
The puzzle looks good.
I’m really enjoying the gardening at the moment, so many things have failed but I don’t mind, it’s fun waiting to see what will pop up. I must get round to doing some of my jigsaw puzzles, they’re just sitting there unloved. Love the giant birthday cookie.
What a lovely gift. I heard that copper stops pests getting into the growing pots. Hopefully it will work nicely for you. The puzzle looks lovely. That’s a giant cookie indeed. 🙂
