Here we are halfway through another week and it’s time to answer some Wednesday Hodgepodge set by Joyce at From This Side of the Pond.
1. Did you watch the Super Bowl? Did your team win? What’s your favourite game day snack for whatever sport is happening?
I didn’t watch the Super Bowl although I did see a lot of fellow Brits here in the UK watching it. There were plenty of clips of the halftime show and Travis Kelce interviews on TikTok the next day though. I don’t follow any sports at all it’s just never been something that interests me.
2. What’s your ‘superpower’?
I think my superpower is being organised. My diary is always up to date, everything has its place in my home and I plan months in advance. I love spreadsheets, planners and schedules they are the essentials of being organised. Of course, not everything always goes to plan but I’m so organised that I usually have a backup plan.
3. Will you do anything special on Valentine’s Day? If so do share. Any thoughts on/about this particular holiday? Share a favourite verse or quote relating to love.
We like to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family rather than as a couple. I’ve bought the kids some small gifts and I’m making a nice meal for us on Friday evening. My eldest daughter shared a recipe with me for Million Dollar Mac and Cheese which I think we will all really enjoy. Chris is going to pick up something nice for dessert. After the meal, we will play some of our favourite games.
I do think that Valentine’s is a commercial holiday but I also think it’s really nice to celebrate all the yearly occasions.
This quote from the book Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is my favourite quote related to love.
4. Are you a fan of the rom-com genre? If so what’s one of your favorites? If you’re not a movie go-er then what about a book you love that features a great love story? How about a favourite love song?
I used to watch a lot of rom-com films but not so much nowadays. One of my favourites is Pretty Woman, probably because it’s a modern fairytale and I love a happy ending.
I usually read thrillers and horror that don’t contain a whole lot of love but I do have one favourite literary fiction book that does. Still Life by Sarah Winman moved me to tears, the only book that ever has. The character’s love for each other, art and Italy shines through the whole book so strongly.
I do like a soppy love song especially if it’s a powerful ballad but my favourite love song is the one that Adam Sandler sings to Drew Barrymore in The Wedding Singer. Grow Old With You is such a fun, silly and real song about love
5. Let’s get creative…write an acrostic using the word L-O-V-E.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Sticking with the theme of love I thought I would share a blog post I wrote about about how you can show yourself love this Valentine’s Day. Loving yourself is so important, it improves your self-esteem and allows you to set healthy boundaries.
I am re-reading Wuthering Heights right now. I haven’t read it in decades and am enjoying it. These classics I read as a teen hit differently now that I’m in another season of life. Your Valentine’s Day plans sound nice. I have treats and little gifts for the grands and they were fun to buy. Have a nice week!
I didn’t see any of the Super Bowl or the half time show, it just didn’t interest me! I did watch quite a few of the movie trailers though.
I love the sound of the family Valentine’s Day, the Mac and Cheese sounds so fancy. x
It’s funny how I will read a romance novel but I don’t give a lot of thought to loving myself, mostly because I am always feeling like I’m not up to snuff!
I love your Valentine idea of celebrating as a family and that’s an impressive acrostic. I like to be organised too.
I could have written this Angie! We also do a Valentine’s Day for the family. Also a fellow organisation and planner lover and don’t get me started on to-do lists, haha.
Love your acrostic, so very true. xx
Trying to catch up on comments from last week before this Wednesday arrives. Yikes. We have often celebrated as a family as well. Million Dollar Mac and cheese sounds good. The book Still Life sounds good. I liked your acrostic. I can’t wait to read your post about showing yourself love. I agree. So important.
