Wednesday Hodgepodge-April Fooling

It’s the first Wednesday in April, and it’s time to answer a hodgepodge of questions.

1. No foolin’! April is here. What’s one fun thing on your April calendar?

I haven’t made any concrete plans for April yet, but both the kids are off school for the Easter holidays, so I’m sure that will include some fun. There’s a new exhibition featuring the work of a toy photographer at our local museum that I’d like to see and I can guarantee that it will be fun.

2. It’s often said, ‘A fool and his money are soon parted’…what’s the last thing you wasted money on?

This is an easy one to answer, it was a takeaway from KFC on Sunday. Having a takeaway was planned as a treat for Mother’s Day, but we had some trouble deciding on what we wanted. We all settled on KFC even though every time we order from there, there are always items missing, and this time was no exception. To add insult to injury, the food wasn’t even that nice, mostly cold, and it looked like it had just been tossed together with wild abandon. This time I’ve learnt my lesson and won’t be wasting any more money with that company.

3.  April 2nd is National DIY day. Are you a do-it yourself kind of person or maybe you’re married to one? If so, what’s the last thing you DIY-ed. If you’re not a DIY-er what’s the most recent job you had to hire someone to complete?

I wouldn’t call myself a do-it yourself kind of person, and my husband is a try to do-it yourself kind of person, although sometimes it ends in disaster. If I could afford it, I would hire a professional every time.

However, I did attempt to put a bird table together myself recently. I’m not sure if it counts as DIY, but it certainly felt like it. It’s a little wonky, but I’m sure the birds won’t mind.

4. Do you eat lamb? If so do you have a favorite dish that calls for lamb?

I absolutely love lamb but we don’t eat it often as it’s very expensive here in the UK. I have two favourite lamb dishes, equally as delicious as each other. The first is a roast lamb dinner with all the trimmings, mashed potato, green beans, carrots, Yorkshire puddings, gravy and lots of mint sauce. The second is a Shepherd’s Pie with added mint sauce and crispy topped mashed potato.

5. Do you fit a stereotype in some way? Explain.

The only stereotype I fit into is that of a typical Gen Xer. I was born in 1977 and identify as a proud member of Generation X. My characteristics include being fiercely independent, being tech-savvy but not tech-dependent, having a very dark sense of humour, and speaking sarcasm fluently.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

My random thought this week is about how time seems to be flying more than I’ve ever noticed before. It feels like Christmas was just a few weeks ago, but we are already in April. I’m not sure it’s an age thing either because my kids keep commenting on how fast time is going too. I did read something about the amount of constant sensory stimulation we are exposed to nowadays being partly responsible. Hopefully, it won’t seem so fast now that we have more daylight hours for spring and summer.

  1. The exhibition at the museum does sound like fun.
I have had KFC about 5 times in my life and it’s always been awful, I don’t rate it at all.
Good job with the bird table!
hahaha! I am from Generation X too and that dark sense of humour and sarcasm gets me in trouble, especially with the snowflake generation. hehehe
