Word Of The Week – Less

Quite rightfully this week should have two words, less and more. Less of the things that don’t make me happy and more of the things that do. Do you ever watch, read or hear something that makes you stop in your tracks and rethink absolutely everything? I like to think they are like little signs from the universe exactly when you need them.

For the last few months, I’ve been feeling a little flat but couldn’t quite put my finger on the reason why. This week I’ve realised that some of the reason is that I’ve outgrown a lot of old routines and habits but hadn’t let them go. I’m making more time for myself to stop and smell the roses and less time for the unimportant stuff.

Another thing I’m determined to have less of is waste, particularly plastic waste. After watching two thought-provoking shows, Years & Years and War on Plastic I’m determined to make changes. I’ve already ditched bottled water and wipes for a start, I’m also trying to be more mindful when I go shopping too. There’s a long way to go but I’ve made a start.

This week I’ve been making more time for the things I love, like reading and spending time with my family. I’ve also been taking some time to sit in the garden and enjoy watching the bees as they collect pollen from the geraniums and lavender.

I’m being strict about the hours I work from home too, it might mean less income but it means more quality time with the kids which is far more important to me right now. I’m extremely grateful that I have a choice and I know it’s not a luxury afforded to everyone. Time seems to pass at an alarming rate and I think one of the ways to combat this might be to try and live in the moment more and slow down.

So, with all that in mind my plans for Summer are less stress, lots more fun.

I’m linking up with Anne from Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.

  1. I’m glad you’ve discovered the changes you need to make and have started making them. I hope it all works out really well for you. I’ve been cutting down on plastic waste too, I started with cutting out plastic soap dispensers, so cheap and we were getting through two a week. Soap is cheaper and lasts longer and doesn’t require plastic.
Thank for linking up to #wotw

  2. Sounds like a plan! I have been more conscious of recycling plastic too — and find myself so annoyed that a lot of companies are getting away with using non-recyclable plastic, when the recyclable variety is available. #WotW

  3. Less is most definitely more. I love that everyone is talking about it. So easy to let single use plastic creep into our homes, out of sheer convenience. The wipes are quite shocking. I avoided them because of the plastic wallets they came in. Had no idea about the actual wipes being made of plastic. I think you are right about life flashing past. Enjoying the moment is good. Hope you have a lovely weekend.#wotw

  4. Doing less of the things you don’t like and more of the things you do is definitely a great idea. Life is too short! 🙂 I have been making a concerted effort to use less plastic too. If we all just do a little bit…

  5. I totaly agree Angela they grow up too quickly and its so important to make the most of it. I to am trying to be aware of plastic use but am struggling with sparkling water, I have ordered a refillable bottle so I only need to buy large bottle as I drink loads. But am so conscious about the plastic waste x

  6. Less stress, more fun sounds like a good plan for the summer. Glad that you are focusing on doing less of the things that don’t make you happy and more of the things that do. We’re trying to focus on cutting down more on our plastic this month too. #WotW

  7. I know exactly what you mean. I have had chance to reassess what I want out of life and to take more time for myself. It must have been so relaxing sitting in the garden watching the bees.
