My word for this week is new. We are in a new year, I’ve made new plans and goals and I’ve bought some new things.
We had a lovely and relaxed New Year’s Eve, spending lots of time together. I made our favourite pasta dish for tea, and we had a gingerbread cheesecake for dessert. Chris and I watched the Big Fat Quiz of the Year that I had recorded and then we played some games with the kids.
My eldest daughter bought me a fun charades game for Christmas so we played that first. We had totally forgotten how to play so there was a lot of laughter as we tried to figure it out. After that, we played some more What Do You Meme? which was just hilarious.
While we waited for midnight, we passed the time by watching The Wild Robot. It was such a lovely heart-warming film and we all really enjoyed it.
We welcomed the new year by watching the London fireworks on the TV and listening to the bongs of Big Ben. There were lots of fireworks outside too but not as many as previous years which was due to the torrential rain I think.
I started the new year with a very soggy walk with Indie. The puddles were huge and there had been some local flooding.
The rest of the day we spent tidying up a little and relaxing. I had a lovely long nap in the afternoon then cooked up a roast dinner. I spent some time thinking about the new goals I’ve set for myself and even began working towards them. As well as my usual reading I’m adding these daily poem books into my routine. I picked them up from a charity shop last year for £3 each which I think was an amazing bargain.
I’m slowly planning a new year sort out and declutter starting this weekend. I’ve bought a few new storage things for the bathroom. I’ve also bought some heavy-duty storage tubs so we can safely store things in the loft. I just need to find the energy and motivation to get going now.
Do you have any plans or goals for the new year? I would love to hear about them.
I’m linking up with Anne from Raisie Bay for Word Of The Week.
Happy new year! Sounds like you had a lovely relaxed NYE. We watched Big Ben and the fireworks too. Love your poem books for the year. We did a daily poem from ‘I am the seed’ for a couple of years and it was lovely reading a poem together each day. Good luck with your sort out and declutter this weekend. I’m planning to do the same once the kids are back at school! #WotW
Great minds think alike when it comes to our Word of the Week! I promise I am not copying you. lol
It sounds like you had a lovely New Years Eve! We watched the Big Fat Quiz of the Year last weekend and loved it! We all played along.
Those poem books sounds wonderful and what a bargain! Good luck with the decluttering. x
Happy New Year! I see a few of us thought of the same word of the week! Your new years eve sounds fab. I usually like to fall asleep before the fireworks begin so I don’t hear the noise. I didn’t this year, but it wasn’t bad, mostly because it was raining. I wish you nothing but the best to you and your family for this year. May it be your best one yet!
Honestly I love Word of the Week! I used to participate in the Word of the Year idea, but about half way into April I was off track. Maybe I picked words that were not really in my heart, but after a few years, I did not participate any more. Visiting from #MMBC
Melynda, you would be welcomed back into the Word of the Week fold, the rules are not strict and I often write my post before even choosing my word!

Happy New Year! It sounds like the perfect day to me. We had quite a lot of fireworks, but not as many as usual. We like playing games on NYE, this year we played The Traitors. I wasn’t sure how it would go down as you have to put a blindfold on for parts of the game, but everyone was ok with this.
