This week has been all about taking care of myself and living life at a much slower pace. I’ve been feeling rather burned out lately, so I made the decision to take everything off my plate that didn’t need to be there. I’m feeling very rested and restored, and ready to make some changes.
A Human Being
I forget a lot of the time that I am a human being, not a human doing and that my sole purpose in life isn’t to be super productive. This week, I’ve taken the time to be a human being who enjoys a slower pace of life and not stressing over the small stuff. Isn’t it silly how much pressure we put on ourselves?
Enjoying Things
Taking the pressure off from constantly feeling like I should be doing something has meant that I’ve actually started enjoying things again. I’ve done a jigsaw, read, although I still feel in a little bit of a slump, and watched some movies. There has been absolutely zero guilt about not completing everything on the never-ending to-do list that constantly runs through my head. Entering competitions is a long-time hobby of mine, and I’ve really enjoyed searching for things that I want to win. These are all things I haven’t enjoyed doing for a while because my inner critic was telling me that I should have been doing more productive things.
I think having a week like this has restored my perspective about what is really important, my mental and physical health above all else.
Home Life
Jake started the week off poorly, but he is happily restored to full health now. I am not sure what was wrong, but he is suffering badly with hayfever this year, and I suspect that might have something to do with it. Poor Chris is suffering too, his eyes are so swollen, sore and itchy. I picked up some allergy eye drops that seem to be helping a little.
Daisy went to a local walking day and funfair with one of her friends on Saturday and had a lovely time. She has also been busy revising for her end-of-year tests. I’m very proud of the way she has organised herself.
I’ve been slowly decluttering this week. I put some empty boxes in the hall and have been filling them up. They will be making their way to the charity shop this weekend. There are also two big bags of clothes that the kids have outgrown that need to be donated as well.
How has your week been?
I’m linking up with Anne from Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.

That’s good that you have been taking care of yourself. I am glad you are feeling better now. Sometimes we have to take a break! It sounds like you have had a lovely week!
Everyone I know has been suffering with hay fever this year, even those who haven’t in the past! The pollen must be really bad. x
“a human being not a human doing” I like that. I think we all forget and it’s good to take time for yourself. The hay fever has been ridiculous this year.
I do love a good sort out, one is due very soon. It’s always good to take some time out for ourselves, but it is hard not to feel guilty #wotw
Well done on taking time for yourself, it’s so hard sometimes isn’t it. And well done on the sorting, I really need to get some done myself.
So glad to hear you’ve had some time to yourself. I am terrible for feeling guilty when I take time out, it’s silly, isn’t it! Because we deserve it.
The pollen has been off the chart! I don’t normally suffer too badly but I’ve got all of the symptoms at the moment. Hope Jake and Chris are feeling better now. x
Glad you are feeling more rested and restored. That’s a good reminder about being a human being rather than a human doing and good to take the pressure off yourself and be able to enjoy things again. Glad Jake is feeling better and hope Chris is feeling better now too. Good luck to Daisy with her end of year tests. #WotW
