Word Of The Week-Snow

This week’s word is snow and we’ve had plenty of it this year. On Saturday we went to the beach where it was cold but lovely then on Sunday we got the first of the snow. It certainly was a weekend of contrasts.

The weather forecast had promised snow from Saturday night onwards. The kids were keeping a vigil at their windows until bedtime but the snow didn’t arrive until the early hours of Sunday. I woke to a beautiful blanket of thick snow but with rain forecast for laterI knew it wouldn’t be there for long. Of course, I had to wake the kids early so they could get outside before it melted.

The rain did arrive later that day, but more snow fell, making everywhere very slushy and slippy. My walk with Indie on Monday was very wet and slippery, we walked along the local brook and I was very surprised at how high the water had become.

A lot more snow fell overnight on Monday covering up most of the ice and slush. While I was walking Indie on Tuesday morning it began to snow some more and we saw a very faint rainbow. I’ve never seen a rainbow in the snow and it made me very happy.

The next couple of days the temperature plummeted, freezing the snow even more and creating a lot of ice patches.

I’ve felt a little guilty sitting here in the warm house while the kids trek to school in freezing temperatures, I say walk but they probably slid there. Daisy said that some ski poles would have been very useful this week.

I do think the snow is beautiful but once it turns icy it can be so dangerous. I think the snow and ice will start to melt over the weekend.

Have you had any snow this week? Do you love the snow or dread it?

I’m linking up with Anne from Raisie Bay for Word Of The Week.

  1. We’ve had a little snow but nowhere near as much as you. I love it, and it is lovely to see how excited the kids get about getting outside in it, but it’s not so good if you have to go out and about too much when it gets icy. How lovely to see a rainbow with the snow. #WotW

  2. We had a rubbish amount of snow that only lasted a few hours and was washed away by all the rain. Hmmf. You had way more snow than us.
I felt guilty too staying home in the warm when my family have had to go out in the cold. x

  3. We didn’t have as much snow as I expected but it was about as much as yours. The kids were totally uninterested. I longed to be able to get my wellies on and go for a walk. It’s been freezing cold since though and I’m longing for it to warm up now. Thankfully I haven’t had to go out yet, but I will need to within the next couple of weeks.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a snow rainbow before!

  4. We’ve only had a little bit of the white stuff but I don’t even care if it’s only half a cm as I’m not going out there, lol. I don’t mind watching it from the window indoors in the warmth but I’ll cancel every appointment to go outside while it’s out there. I’m sorry for the kids who have to brave it and go despite the danger. I’m happy it’s back to ‘regular’ temperatures.
