Five Frugal Things I’ve Done This Week {10.9.21}

Every Friday I share five frugal things that I’ve done to save or make money. I believe that a frugal lifestyle is an individual thing and there is no right or wrong way of going about it. From the smallest of savings to the greatest it all adds up and contributes to us living the life that we want for less.

Five Frugal Things

  1. The first week of no spend September has gone really well I’m pleased to report. I did have to fight temptation when I saw that Home Bargains had some Halloween things out on display though. Halloween and Christmas are my weakness when it comes to impulse spending.

I’ve decided to sort through all of my seasonal decorations to remind myself of what I already have. I will then give myself a sensible budget to spend on Halloween to stop overspending.

2. The cashback apps have been kind again this week and I picked up some more goodies to add to the collection of gifts I’ve already accumulated. The alcohol and energy drinks were completely free and the other items cost just 50p each.

3. My daughter is going on a school residential trip soon and instead of buying new things from the kit list, I’ve been looking at what we can borrow instead. Some of the things on the list we probably wouldn’t use ever again so I see no sense in spending the money. I have borrowed a small wheeled overnight case from my cousin and requested that she borrow some of the waterproofs that the activity centre already has for kayaking.

4. I have been taking advantage of free offers again this week and it has paid off. I used a referral link from an Instagram page to claim a £10 Amazon voucher for signing up for an app and also go a free £5 to spend on food at M&S through the loyalty app.

I also had money sitting in a few online casino accounts from taking advantage of the risk-free spins, one I could withdraw as cash and the other two I redeemed as gift vouchers. The gift vouchers were on offer and doubled up so I claimed £10 on each instead of £5. If you can be sensible with gambling websites then you can use the free spins and daily offers without spending a penny of your own money.

5. This week’s meals have been quite interesting as I’ve been using up lots of random yellow sticker items from the freezer. I’m also trying to use up the packets and jars of sauces that I have accumulated recently. Doing this keeps the cost of each meal really low which is always a good thing.
