Five Frugal Things I’ve Done This Week {23.7.21}

Every Friday I share five frugal things that I’ve done to save or make money. I believe that a frugal lifestyle is an individual thing and there is no right or wrong way of going about it. From the smallest of savings to the greatest it all adds up and contributes to us living the life that we want for less.

Five Frugal Things

  1. This week I have levelled up my efforts when it comes to using cashback apps, instead of checking once a week I have been stalking them daily. This method has paid off as I was able to get some really nice products for almost free.

Although I’ve used Shopmium for years I’ve only just recently downloaded GreenJin and I’m so glad I did. There seems to be a lot more variety of stores available on the GreenJin app and claiming the cashback was really simple. I have also started using Checkout Smart again too so I’m hoping combining my use of the three apps will lead to lots of free food and drink this summer.

If you are not already a member of Shopmium and would like to join you can use my referral code KMFEUAMT to get yourself a free tube of pringles.

I paid a total of 30p and also made £2 profit on the Coco Pops using a website called FlavorWiki where you get paid to test products.

2. I have a few savings goals that I want to meet this summer so I have been requesting food from Olio, which is a fantastic app for saving food from going to waste. I’m hoping that I can save some money on my weekly groceries by doing this which can then be transferred to my saving pots.

3. I got a free share worth £7.06 from Freetrade by referring a family member, I sold it straight away and bought shares in Apple instead. I’m only just learning about investing and there’s a lot to get my head around but I’m really enjoying the process so far. So much so that I invested a couple of pounds in my Trading 212 account as well. It will be fun to see if my shares increase in value over time.

If you would are not already signed up for Freetrade or Trading 212 and would like a free share I would be happy to send you a referral link.

4. I have taken advantage of the heatwave and have been drying every load of laundry outside on the washing line instead of the tumble dryer. As we have had to run the fans this week I like to think I’ve offset the cost of the electricity used and not doubled it.

I shared an article a while ago that included five frugal laundry tips that could save you money if you would like more ideas in this area.

5. I have been busy researching ideas for free or cheap things we can do in the summer holidays. Free events are a little thin on the ground this year understandably so I’m having to think outside the box. I’ve been reading back through my blog and refreshing my memory on how we have survived previous summer holidays on a budget.

I have a savings pot on the go especially for summer holidays fun so I’m hoping to stretch that as far as I can.
