On Wednesdays, I answer a hodgepodge of questions set by Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. I hope you enjoy reading my hodgepodge of answers.
1. May 20th is World Bee Day…what’s something that’s kept you ‘busy as a bee’ lately?
Planning for the next couple of months has kept me busy lately. The end of May until school finishes at the end of July is going to be a very busy time for us. We have a holiday coming up, followed by a weekend away and a residential with school for Jake. There are also appointments, days out, and school events to fit in as well. I’m quite an organised person, and as long as it’s all written in my planner, then I’m good to go.
2. Do you like honey? What’s something you make or enjoy that calls for honey?
I do like honey, although that hasn’t always been the case. It’s grown on me over the years. I like to drizzle it over a bowl of fruit, yoghurt and granola or use it as a glaze on gammon. The kids like honey on toast, but I’m not sure that’s something I would enjoy.
3. “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Proverbs 16:24
What’s a proverb you love, or one that speaks to you or has helped you in some way?
The Bible is full of Proverbs, a whole book in fact, if that helps with your answer. The word proverb is defined as ‘a short pithy saying in general use, stating a general truth or piece of advice’.
Although I’m not a religious person, I do view myself as someone who is spiritual, and I have seen many proverbs over the years that have resonated with me.
One I particularly like is from is a Hausa proverb from Nigeria about gratitude, it goes, Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot.
4. Tell us about a ‘sweet’ moment in your life recently that filled you with joy, gratitude, or peace.
Since adding a bird table to my back garden, I’ve had so many joyful moments watching the visitors it attracts. Just last week, a family of starlings arrived, two adults pecked at the seed while their baby followed close behind, waiting to be fed. It was such a sweet moment, and I felt very grateful that I witnessed it.
5. When you were a child, what did you want to ‘be’ when you grew up? How close did you come to that?
I always wanted to become a teacher or work in science when I grew up, unfortunately, neither came to pass. There was a time when I studied towards working in childcare, which I think would have led to a career in teaching, but life got in the way and I wasn’t able to complete my studies.
I believe we end up being where we were meant to be, and I was meant to be a mother and raise four wonderful humans. A career would have been nice, but overall, I’m pretty much happy with the way things have turned out.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
In honour of World Bee Day, I will share a photo of a bee visiting my newly bloomed geraniums and a random fact about bees.
Honey bees have five eyes! They have two large compound eyes and three smaller eyes in the centre of their heads.
Good morning! I enjoyed reading your answers to Joyce’s questions. Being a mama is one of the greatest blessings God can bestow on us. How wonderful to be raising four of them!
Have a lovely day!
We have a hummingbird feeder and also a bluebird house which is really fun to watch. We can’t have a bird feeder as the bears like it a little too much. I like the proverb you shared. Having an attitude of gratitude helps us see how much we truly have to be thankful for. And raising four children is important ‘work’, such a blessing too. Have a great day!
This time of year is always so busy with the end of school coming up.
I love honey on toast but never think of having it. I think I’ve read this at the right time, that’s lunch sorted!
I studied childcare at college too and life got in the way here too.
I did not know that about bee’s! What a great fact! x
I enjoyed your post. I like the Proverbs you chose. I like to watch birds too. I always say “life happens.” and I agree with what you said.
I enjoyed reading your answers to Joyce’s questions. Your geraniumns are beautiful, such a brilliant color. I didn’t know that bees had 5 eyes!
I love your geranium! They are my favorite…but I don’t think I have seen one that color. It’s a beauty!! And I had no idea about 5 eyed bees either. Who knew? Enjoyed your HodgePodge!
