Project 365 Week 22-Coastal Walks, Hot Doughnuts & Peaceful Mornings

Week 22 of Project 365 has been all about slowing down and soaking up the simple pleasures. We’ve spent the week in beautiful North Yorkshire, enjoying a much-needed holiday by the coast. There’s been plenty of beach walks with the dog, fresh sea air, and a few hot sugary doughnuts. It’s been peaceful, relaxing, and exactly what we needed.

On Sunday morning, we kicked off the day with a trip to Tim Hortons for breakfast, a nice little treat before the chaos of packing began. Iced coffee, hash browns, and breakfast pancakes definitely helped fuel us for the day ahead. Once we were back home, it was straight into holiday prep mode with suitcases, checklists, and that last-minute rush to make sure we didn’t forget anything.

On Monday, we packed up the car and set off for Filey in North Yorkshire, excited to start our holiday. The journey was smooth, with very little traffic, which is always a bonus. When we arrived at Reighton Sands, we were really pleased to find the caravan park was lovely and clean, and the caravan itself felt so homely. It even had a little decking area outside, perfect for sitting out with a coffee in the morning.

On Tuesday morning, I took Indie for a walk down to the beach. It was a bit of a mission getting there; the path was really steep, but the view made it totally worth it. After that, I met up with the others for a swim and a float along the lazy river.

In the afternoon, we popped into Bridlington to pick up hoodies for Jake and Chris… let’s just say we didn’t exactly pack with the weather in mind!

We started Wednesday with another lovely walk, this time along the cliffs. The North Yorkshire coastline is so picturesque. I spotted swifts darting around and lots of wildflowers growing along the path. I managed to catch a quick photo of Daisy taking a picture herself, using my ‘fancy’ camera that I really need to get back into using one day.

Later on, we headed into Scarborough to pick up some souvenirs. The kids were keen to spend their holiday money, and I couldn’t resist grabbing some fresh hot doughnuts for the drive back; they were absolutely delicious.

Thursday morning was really windy, but that didn’t stop us from heading to another beach. I actually enjoy the beach more on blustery, overcast days, I’m not into sunbathing; I’d much rather hunt for shells and interesting rocks. We went out for lunch, then headed back to the caravan to relax and make the most of our last full day away.

We set off nice and early for the journey home, hoping to beat the traffic. Although we did hit a few slow patches along the way, it wasn’t too bad overall. I grabbed a delicious iced brown sugar espresso from Starbucks to keep me going, which definitely helped. As always, it was nice to get back and nap in my own bed, but we had such a lovely holiday.

It was so nice to wake up in my own bed on Saturday morning. I love going away, but I’m definitely a homebird at heart. Before I’d even had my coffee, I went straight outside to check on my plants and spotted a ladybug happily sitting on the mint, which made me smile. The rest of the day was a mix of unpacking, pottering around, and a bit of shopping.

  1. It sounds like a good week and what a great looking breakfast, it sounds like you needed it to prepare for the week ahead.
What wonderful photos! It looks like you had a brilliant holiday even with the weather not being so great. x

  2. Glad you had a good holiday, but I agree there is nothing better than your own bed. Shame the weather wasn’t so great. I tend to pack for all 4 seasons when I holiday in the UK.

  3. Sounds like it was a nice holiday. We went south and were surprised at how quiet it was on the roads for a bank holiday/half term weekend. I wish we had a Tim Hortons near here. We’ve only been once and wasn’t that impressed, but we’ve heard the breakfasts are better than the burger side of things

  4. I loved reading this post! You have reminded me of so many lovely holidays of my childhood. You were so near to my hometown. Did you go to Bempton Cliffs? That’s one of my favourite spots. My youngest son loved going for breakfasts of hash browns when we came to the UK 🙂

    1. We didn’t visit Bempton Cliffs although I did spot signs, I’ll add to my list of places to visit when we return as no doubt we will.
I’m glad it brought back good memories for you.

  5. What lovely photos! I prefer the beaches on less than full sun days too as I like to walk and explore more than sit and sunbathe. That ladybug photo is great and so detailed.

  6. What a lovely holiday. The pictures on the cliffs are beautiful. I am like you, prefer to walk on the cliffs than to stay to sunbath on the beach.
It’s always nice to see ladybugs in the garden. They do eat pests that can damage the plants and they are so cute.
