Top 3 Small Hatchbacks That Are Actually Very Practical

Small hatchbacks are becoming a thing of the past. If you’ve been shopping for a new daily car, then you’ll notice your options are usually limited to SUVs and slightly smaller crossover SUVs. You want something smaller than this – a classic hatchback that’s easy to drive yet spacious and economical enough to be a practical daily vehicle.

You’d think this would be easy to find, yet most hatchbacks veer one way or the other on the practicality front! Having said that, there’s no need to fret – a bit of digging around throws up three fantastic small hatchbacks with all the practicality you’re hoping for.

Renault Clio

The latest Renault Clio is an extremely practical and affordable small hatchback. One of its main selling points is the unique Full Hybrid engine system. You don’t need to plug it in or charge it; the car charges a small battery that kicks in and takes some of the strain away from the engine. It means you can cruise down motorways using battery power instead of petrol, which adds up over time and helps you save money on the car itself.

It’s a practical size and easy to drive, too. Plus, there’s a decent amount of space in the boot – and three seats with reasonable legroom in the back. You get five doors as well, so there’s none of the annoying folding the front seat forward to shepherd passengers into the back seats scenario.

Skoda Fabia

In truth, the Skoda Fabia is one of the most underrated and underappreciated hatchbacks on the market. It’s the perfect size: five doors, three seats in the back, a big boot and a small turning circle. Like all Skoda cars, it also comes with incredible safety technology and inconceivably brilliant reliability. You rarely hear of a Skoda breaking down, which makes the Fabia an ideal daily driver.

The best thing about the Fabia is its affordability. You can pick up a base spec brand-new model for a very affordable price – and it comes with key practical features like rear parking sensors. Used cars are similarly cheap, so it’s one of those daily cars that’s easy to find and will last a long time.

Vauxhall Corsa

If you’re buying a car based on looks alone, then there aren’t many that can compete with the new Vauxhall Corsa. It features lots of straight lines and blocky elements to make it look quite retro and stylish. Corsas have always been at the top of the hatchback game because they’re the perfect size for a small car.

You get enough space inside, but it’s big enough to make you feel safe and secure on motorways. The only downside is they’re quite expensive these days, even when you opt for financing options

If you want a small hatchback that does it all, then any of these three cars will be worth looking at. Figure out your budget, decide if you want to go with a new or used, and then book some test drives to see which one you like the most.
