It’s time for another Wednesday Hodgepodge where I answer some interesting and fun questions set by Joyce at From This Side of the Pond.
1. I write the Hodgepodge questions so they’ll post on Sunday, which sometimes throws me off in terms of what day it is. St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated on Monday, March 17th. Did you mark the day in some way? Wear green? Make a special meal? Watch or participate in a parade?
I didn’t do anything to mark the day, it’s not an event that I usually take much notice of. I think it’s definitely more popular to celebrate in the US and Ireland of course. In local news this morning I did notice that they had a small St Patrick’s Day parade in town yesterday.
Daisy asked me about it yesterday so we had a look at the history of the day and why it’s celebrated. It’s always interesting to learn the history behind traditional celebrations.
2. Do you think luck plays a part in your life? Explain.
I do think luck plays a part in my life but I believe that luck is something you create for yourself. I find the harder I work and the more positive I keep my mindset the more luck I create. Practicing gratitude every day and embracing opportunities as they come have played a big part in being lucky I believe.
I’ve been entering competitions as a hobby for 25 years and have been very successful in that time. The more time and commitment I put into my hobby the more I win. I believe I am a very lucky person.
3. Of the 15 green foods listed, which one is your favorite and how do you like it prepared? Any on the list that are a hard no for you? In general do you like fruits and veggies? As a kid did you eat them willingly or did you hide peas in your napkin hoping your momma wouldn’t see?
4. What’s something that makes you ‘turn green’? (with envy or with illness… whichever way you want to run with it)
I try not to feel envious but something that does turn me green with envy is people who can run. When I see joggers or runners I always think how wonderful it must feel to be able to have the strength and stamina to run for miles. I have tried in the past but it’s just not for me, I’m simply not built for it.
5. Did you spend a lot of time outdoors as a child? Doing what? Do you spend a lot of time outdoors now? Doing what?
I spent so much time outdoors as a child, especially during the summer holidays. There were a lot of green spaces and parks where I grew up so I would spend my time there with friends. We would ride our bikes around, make dens in the woods and play on the swings in the park.
I try to spend as much time outdoors as I can nowadays but my health doesn’t always comply. I love taking the dog for a walk and visiting forests, parks and gardens with the family. Being outside does wonders for my mental health, hugging trees helps too.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
My random thought this week is about happiness. This Thursday is International Day of Happiness, The aim of the day is to remind us that happiness comes from caring for one another feeling connected and being a part of something bigger.
The dictionary defines happiness as “the state of being happy” which is a very nice state to be in I think. We all have things that make us truly happy and I think we need to do more of those things.
I enjoyed reading your answers and I agree with you on many of yours. I hadn’t thought of people running as being something to induce envy but I am actually right there with you. I used to run marathons but can’t run like I used to. I still subscribe to some running blogs and when I read about people’s long mileage running, it makes me feel all the worse that I can’t run like I used to (I am still able to run. I just can’t run distances anymore). I like the picture of you hugging a tree!
Thanks for your comment Maria. I imagine those marathons were really fun to take part in.
Is Daisy your daughter? I have a granddaughter with that name and it definitely suits her. We call her our WILDflower lol. She’s 2. April is the month of pollen here, a season unto itself. I don’t spend as much time outdoors in April as I would like because of it. Hope you have a great day!
Yes Daisy is my daughter, it’s such a lovely name isn’t it. That sucks about the pollen but I can understand why you want to avoid it.
I thought that too, that St. Patrick’s Day is a bigger thing elsewhere but I saw quite a few parades and events on TikTok from here in the UK.
You are so lucky with the competitions but you do put the effort in.
I would love to be able to run, I’ve tried and it’s just not for me. x
You should get back into comps Kim, I think you would do well with Insta comps.
I answered some on Kim’s post so I’ll do some different ones here: Do I consider myself lucky, yes because I have five beautiful children, otherwise no, life has been very unfair. What make me green with envy, people who can walk and wake up without pain every day. My daughter says I shouldn’t be jealous of these things I should just accept my fate, I do, but I can still be jealous. The only thing that I feel an advantage is that I always have seat, even in places that are packed and all seats taken. I missed celery on Kim’s list, I detest it.
I think it’s perfectly normal to have those feelings, we are only human after all. I’, glad to finally find another celery hater!
I enjoyed reading your answers. The pollen is already crazy here in Alabama plus there have been a lot of controlled burns so our air quality has not been good. I have serious allergies so they often force me to stay inside.
Thanks for your comment Lisa, sorry to hear about your allergies you must dread this time of year. I hope things stay manageable for you.
Such a cute photo of you hugging the tree! I don’t think I’m envious of people who can run, but I sure can’t figure out people who enjoy running! LOL Hope you’re having a great week!
I enjoyed your answers. I agree with the running..people running make it look so “fun” and then I try it and it doesn’t ever happen the way i envision it.
