Wednesday Hodgepodge-May Musings

Wednesday Hodgepodge-May Musings

It’s Wednesday again, and it’s time to answer a hodgepodge of questions from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond .

1. Let’s compare this May to last May. What’s changed? What remains very much the same?

This time last year, my health wasn’t great, and I was in the middle of an IBD flare-up. My mental health wasn’t great either. This May, my health is so much better, and I’m very grateful for that. I’ve done lots of therapy work, and it has helped so much.

Family life remains the same, busy, hectic, but wonderful and rewarding. The kids are a little older and Chris and I have more grey hairs, but other than that, it’s pretty much the same.

2. What’s something you may do this month?

I may get around to washing the curtains in our bedroom. It’s a job I keep putting off as they are so heavy and awkward to take down and put back up. This is something that’s been on my to-do list for ages.

3. Mother’s Day is approaching (in the US of A)…in what way(s) are you like your mother?

This is one question that I can’t answer. I didn’t really know my mum very well. I don’t have many memories of her, as we were estranged for a very long time, and she passed away many years ago. One thing I do remember is that she taught me to read and often bought me books, so maybe that’s where my love of reading comes from.

4. Did you have a favorite book as a child? What was it and why was it a favorite.

My favourite book from childhood is My Naughty Little Sister by Dorothy Edwards, it’s a collection of short stories. I had a lovely teacher in primary school who would read the stories to us, and she just made them come alive.

I couldn’t even tell you how many times I’ve read it over the years, by myself and to my own children. It will always hold lovely memories for me.

5. Are you more of a tortoise or a hare? Explain.

I can be a mixture of both, but I work hard at being more like the tortoise. Chris, my husband, is always reminding me to be the tortoise; slow and steady wins the race.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

At the end of this week, my youngest, Jake, will turn 11 years old, and I’ve been thinking about how quickly time passes. My blog is actually older than he is. I documented some of my pregnancy on here. When the kids were babies and toddlers, and life was chaotic and very tiring, it was hard to imagine a time when they wouldn’t need me quite as much. That time seems to have arrived rather more quickly than I imagined it would.

  1. I am so glad you are doing better health wise now.
When you’ve washed your bedroom curtains you can come and do mine if you want. lol They are such a faff to take down. I must get around to them.
I found the Mother’s Day question tough to answer too. Sending love and hugs.
Happy birthday to Jake for later on in the week. x

  2. Regarding the growth of our children, I like to say, “If you feed them, they will grow!” And they do, very fast. How interesting to have a child who is younger than your blog.

I am visiting you via the Hodgepodge. Blessings!

  3. I’m glad your health has improved. There are so many in the Hodgepodge this week who have no relationship or have very difficult relationships with their moms. Those are sweet pictures of your son. Time has a way of flying right on by. Have a nice weekend!

  4. It’s always so nice to look back in time and know things are better than they were! I have found these questions to be so interesting this time for Hodgepodge. Good to find new blogs too!
