Wednesday Hodgepodge-Spring Has Sprung

Each Wednesday, I like to take part in a blog link party where Joyce at From This Side of the Pond poses a hodgepodge of questions. Her questions really get my brain ticking, and I enjoy the variety of questions and subjects included.

Here are my answers for this week’s Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1. Spring has officially sprung (in the northern hemisphere anyway)…did she roll in more like a lion or more like a lamb in your neck of the woods? What needs more of your attention in terms of a good spring clean this year-your house or your garden/yard?

Spring has arrived here in the UK, although we have had a fair few frosty mornings and cold nights. It’s been lovely to spot the signs of spring arriving when I walk the dog. I used to think Autumn was my favourite month of the year, but spring is an equal contender.

I think our gardens are more in need of a spring clean this year. I’ve been working on different areas of the house for a few months now, so nothing much needs doing. The gardens need clearing of last year’s dead plants and shrubs and a general tidy up. One area that needs a good spring clean is the shed.

2. What’s put a spring in your step lately?

The arrival of spring has put a spring in my step lately. The bluer skies, the increase in hours of sunlight and getting outside more have boosted my mood. Life just feels better when the sky is blue.

3. When you were a kid, what was the best snack to find in your lunchbox? If you didn’t do the lunchbox thing, tell us what was your favorite after school snack.

I had school dinners at primary and high school so I never had a lunchbox. The thing I remember liking the most as an after-school snack was a Mars bar and a can of fizzy pop.

4. In what area of your life are you planting seeds?

At the moment, I’m planting seeds for better health. I’ve been working really hard to improve both my physical and mental health since last year. Right now, I’m concentrating on lowering my HBA1C (blood sugar) level. I made really good progress with it last yea,r but I would like to lower it even further.

5. Why do you live where you do? Would you consider living somewhere else? Why or why not?

The simple answer to this is because it’s where I’ve lived since I was five years old. I’ve lived in the same town for forty-two years but have moved around to different areas of the town.

I’m not sure if I would want to live anywhere else; this feels like home to me, and I’m very happy here. If I did move, it would be to somewhere near the coast, I would love to be able to visit the ocean every day.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I went to a maths morning at Jake’s school, and it got me thinking about why some people are good at it and why some people just don’t get it at all. I’m in the camp of not getting it at all, and it’s something that really does bother me. My kids love maths and are really good at it, as is my husband, so I’m wondering if it’s down to genetics.

I had a really hard time in school with maths and came away with a very low grade in my exams. I look after our personal finances and can cope with day-to-day maths, so it doesn’t really hold me back in any way, but I would love to have a better understanding of the subject.

Do you struggle with maths? Do you think genetics plays a part in being good in certain subjects? I would love to hear what you think.

  1. We have had some lovely weather over the last couple of weeks and I am enjoying spotting the signs of spring too. I always say that life feels better when the sun is shining.
I don’t get maths at all! I have always struggled, my youngest is a maths whiz but my eldest really struggled and it took her three tries to pass her maths GCSE.

  2. I love a bright blue sky! I’m not much of a maths person either and much prefer words to numbers. I know enough but it doesn’t come naturally to me. Fall is my favorite too. Have a nice day!

  3. I was never particularly good at math once I hit a certain grade. I got up through pre-Algebra then lost my ability to understand what was happening!

  4. I love blue skies so much. Kansas has such a deep blue on the clearest days and I really enjoy just taking in that color. I can do *certain* maths… like for my sewing, quilting, web development, graphic design, spreadsheets, etc. But put me in a ninth grade algebra class and I’m completely lost lol. I made straight A’s up to that point, then muh brain said nope nope nope. So glad to meet you. Happy and blessed Spring to you!

  5. I also think the nicer weather helps improve our mood. Blue skies are very therapeutic.
Maths was never my favourite subject, but I know enough to get by! xx
