Word Of The Week-Festive

This week has been all about getting ready for the festive season. The Christmas tree is up in time for December 1st and I’ve been busy making a festive food shopping list. My diary is bursting with activities and events in the run to Christmas. I’m also more than ready to start indulging in mince pies and mulled wine.

On Sunday I found myself in Manchester being treated to the most delicious afternoon tea. Afterwards we took a walk around the Christmas markets which was an absolute first for me. I loved the atmosphere, the sights, sounds and particularly the smells would put even the Grinch himself into a festive mood.

The Christmas 24 channel keeps me company in the morning, the cheesier the movie the better in my opinion. Although I haven’t played any festive tunes yet the kids have been practicing for their upcoming Christmas plays. The house has been full of the sounds of ‘shine star shine’ and ‘jingle bells’. I think I now the songs better than the kids at this point.

Chris and I have been armchair critics, deciding which Christmas advert is the best. I’m undecided but I really like the ones by Sainsbury’s and Aldi. I have to admit I’m a little disappointed at the offering from John Lewis this year. I’ve consoled myself by watching the entire back catalogue of their ads on YouTube.

I love this time of year and intend to celebrate the festive season for as long as I can.

You might enjoy my previous word of the week post, Forty.

  1. Today marks the start of Christmas for me, so I have got Christmas music playing as I type now! I will be indulging in my first mince pie of the season this afternoon 🙂 Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

  2. The John Lewis one makes me sad because it was the song they played at my Father-in-law’s funeral last year. We really love the Sainsburys one and we all know it so well I’m considering doing our own family version of it! Today we have been moving furniture so the Christmas decorations can go up tomorrow, then I’ll join you in feeling festive. x
