This week, I’ve constantly been checking on my new plants to see if they are growing, so I thought growth would be a good word to use for word of the week.
Each morning, I’ve been popping out into the garden and admiring all the different pots of growing plants. Being new to growing plants, it’s all been very exciting seeing how much progress there has been in just a couple of weeks.
All of the plants have had growth, some more than others. The raspberry plant that started off the smallest has flourished, and the strawberry plants are already growing runners.
I have one chilli pepper plant that isn’t showing much growth, so we’ve covered it up to keep it nice and warm. I’m thinking that I should have kept that one inside for a little longer, but I’m learning as I go along.
All of the pots are new to the garden, but I do have a lovely established hardy geranium at the back of the garden. I was delighted this week to see the first flowers blooming, they are a beautiful, vibrant purple colour. The bees absolutely love them, and I can’t wait to see them visiting.
My neighbour has a lovely garden, and I think most of the plants we have growing have come from her garden by accident. I’m viewing it as a happy accident. It means I get to enjoy the fruits of a much more knowledgeable gardener’s labour.
No Mow May
For the front garden, I decided to take part in No Mow May to let the wildflowers grow. I know a lot of people like a neat front lawn, and that would usually be me included. This year I want to make the green space I have friendly for bees, bugs and butterflies. The growth has been amazing, there are flowers I’ve never seen before, and the grass itself is looking much healthier.
I will mow some of it in June, but I’m going to leave a patch to grow wild to provide a friendly environment beyond just this month.
How lovely to see things growing well in the garden. Those geraniums are such a pretty colour. We tend to join in with No Mow May too and have a few patches in the garden which tend to be mostly neglected to help wildlife. It’s nice to see some random flowers that appear as a result. #WotW
It is so exciting when you see things growing! It sounds like your plants are doing really well.
Not mowing your grass sounds like a good thing! x
It’s great when things start to grow! My chillies were really slow to get going but they’ve perked up now
I’m growing things too, I don’t have any flowers yet though, just one rose. I am also doing no mow May, it’s great for all the birds that live in the trees at the bottom of our garden. The front is getting a bit out of hand though so I may get that mown sooner. I don’t mind the back, though. Although, the only thing I’ve gained from my neighbours appears to be a pair of jean which has blown off their washing line. Sadly, I can’t retrieve them myself so I’ll have to ask for help.
I love the blue geranium, we’ve got loads in the garden. I’ve been watching the seedlings growing, I don’t have space in the house at all, so all growing in a plastic greenhouse. #wotw
