We spent Monday to Friday on holiday in North Yorkshire, so holiday is, of course, the obvious choice as the word of the week. My eldest daughter, her partner and our grandson came to the same caravan park. It’s been lovely to be able to spend some time together.
Filey
We have stayed in Filey before, but this time we chose a different holiday park. Last time we stayed at Primrose Valley, this time at Reighton Sands. Both parks are good, but there is definitely more for the kids to do at Primrose Valley. This park has been nice and quiet, I’ve enjoyed some peaceful mornings on the decking, bird watching with a coffee.
My walks with Indie have had rather a different type of beautiful view, this really is a stunning place to visit. I am a little sad that the beaches on this side of the coast are very steep to access. So steep, in fact, that there is a tractor that takes you up and down during the daytime.
The weather hasn’t been as nice as it has been so far in May, but we have still been able to get out and do everything that we wanted to. Also, is there anything more cosy than the sound of rain while sitting in a nice warm caravan?
Fun
Holidays have always been about what the kids want to do, so we make our plans around them. As long as they can go swimming, visit the arcade and go to the park, they are happy. There’s a small indoor pool and an outside pool with a lazy river here, they have really enjoyed making use of that. I think my least favourite part of a caravan holiday is trying to dry the costumes and towels in readiness for the next day’s swimming.
We went to Scarborough on Wednesday to spend our money on holiday tat and souvenirs. It’s a lovely seaside town, but it gets super busy very quickly. The kids loved mooching around the shops and especially enjoyed getting an ice-cream before we left. I couldn’t leave without buying some piping hot, fresh doughnuts, they smelled and tasted amazing.
Everyone has had a lovely time and is going home happy, and the best you can ask for from a family holiday.
It’s back to school and work for Daisy, Chris, and me next week, but Jake still has one more week to chill and do as he pleases. I can see lots of Xbox time in his future!
I’m linking up with Anne from Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.

It sounds like you had a lovely holiday and it looks like some fab walks with Indie.
I do love Scarborough but I haven’t been for years. Yum to the doughnuts! x
I love Filey and Scarborough, I grew up near there and have fond memories of many day trips. I love visiting the arcades and 2p machines and buy tack/souvieners. #wotw
Beautiful views. We are all talk of holidays here, the camp we are going to, down south, is also difficult to access the beach but we will be able to see and smell the sea and there is a short bus ride if we want to go to the promenade. It’s just lovely to get away sometimes. We always used to go in the half term break in May.
Sounds like you had a lovely holiday. I have never been to Scarborough or Filey but it looks lovely
How lovely to have a week away for half-term. That beach looks stunning, shame it’s not easier to access though. Sounds like you’ve had a lovely relaxing time and the kids have enjoyed themselves. Hot fresh doughnuts are always nice. Hope Jake is enjoying having an extra week just to chill. #WotW
