Word Of The Week-Sorting

This week’s word is sorting, I’ve been a busy bee ticking lots of things off my endless to-do list. It’s the first week of Autumn half-term so thankfully I have the kids here to help me. I have a little collection of chronic illnesses including ME so I have to pace myself and accept help where it’s available.

I started off with Jake’s room he’s 10 years old and although he does tidy his room it sometimes needs a deeper clean. After sorting out what he wanted to donate I got to work with the duster and vacuum. He has so much Lego and it’s a real dust magnet so I’m looking at some display cases from Ikea as an alternative.

Next on my list was sorting plans for a little Halloween party at home next week. My eldest daughter, her fiance, and my grandson always join us for trick-or-treating and food. Aldi had some nice little bits in this year, I picked up some hot dogs, chocolate mice and spooky chocolate characters. I also grabbed the ingredients to make a pumpkin pie.

The next few months are busy ones with lots of birthdays and of course, Christmas to celebrate so I’ve been sorting for those events too. I always try to be organised as I want to avoid crowds and also to spread the cost. I’m almost finished with the main presents so it’s just a case of finding somewhere to store them now.

On Thursday it was my daughter’s turn for a room deep clean. She is going to be 13 soon so we needed to make space for birthday and Christmas presents. Her room never takes me that long anymore, most of the toys she used to play with have been donated.

It does sound like I’ve done a lot now I read it back but I’ve made sure to get plenty of rest too. I watched two films on Netflix that I really enjoyed. The first was Woman of The Hour about the American serial killer Rodney Alcala. It was directed by Anna Kendrick who stars in it too and she’s done an amazing job. This is not for the faint-hearted but worth a watch. I also wanted Wicked Little Letters which has been on my list for a while. The film is based on a hate-mail scandal from the 1920s and is a good watch.

I’ve also been listening to a book by John Marrs called The Family Experiment which has been brilliant so far. It’s a near-future thriller which is not my usual cup of tea but I’m so glad I gave it a chance.

I think that’s enough sorting for this week, I’m looking forward to a more relaxing weekend. We are going to watch some Halloween movies and maybe have a drive around our town to look for decorated houses.

  1. Sounds like you’ve had a busy week sorting things out. We need to have a good sort out of the kids’ rooms in the next few weeks too. Sounds like you’re well organised for Christmas as well. Good that you’ve also had some time to relax and hope you enjoy your relaxing weekend and the Halloween movies. #WotW

  2. My to-do list is never ending too!
My girls are 22 & 17 and I still like to go in and deep clean their rooms once in a while. Tidying their rooms is so different than cleaning them.
Aww! Have a lovely Halloween party.
It does sound like you have had a busy week! I hope you have a nice relaxed weekend. x

  3. Sounds like you’ve had a good week with a mix of work and restful pleasure. I hope the half term break goes well and that your kids enjoy it too. Nice to make good memories now.

  4. Oh we so need to do some sorting, but it’s never ending. I was very disappointed with my Little Man the other day, I gave him a black bag to fill with with biscuit and crisp packets and empty water bottles in the room. He needed a second bag! I’ve banned eating in his room for the foreseeable, naughty boy. Sorting can be so good though, it’s a shame it’s never ending. I hope you have an enjoyable half term.
