I’ve chosen weather as my word of the week because it’s what has been on everyone’s mind this week. You can’t move without seeing a dramatic headline about heat waves that will melt us all. In reality, we are having a few days of higher-than-average temperatures. I, for one, am grateful it’s only a few days this time.
I’m not a fan of hot weather, sunshine and warmth, yes, but not the sticky, muggy sort of heat we get here in the UK. We live in a house that was built in the 1950s and was designed to retain heat. A couple of days of a heatwave and it’s like living inside a sauna. We have fans in every room, but they don’t even help once the house has heated up.
I think you can tell that I am not a fan of being too hot, it makes me tired, grumpy and uncomfortable. This type of weather has me dreaming about packing up and moving to the Arctic.
The rest of my family feels the same, apart from Jake, who likes to wrap himself up like a burrito for bed every night, no matter the temperature.
Daisy’s school have said that they don’t need to wear their blazers or ties on Thursday and Friday, which has helped her a little. I think she would rather they said she could stay home in front of her fan and work from her laptop.
A Positive Note
Despite this grumpy post about the heat, it’s been a pretty good week. Nothing much has happened; it’s been a fairly relaxed and chilled sort of week, just what I have needed.
I will finish with a positive note about the hot weather just to balance things out. The heat has brought lots of insects, butterflies and bees to the garden, which has been lovely to see.
I’m linking up with Anne from Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.
