3Doodler Start Essential Pen Set Review

Daisy loves being creative so she was very excited when the 3Doodler Start Essential Pen Set arrived for her to review. She couldn’t wait to get working on some designs.

The 3Doodler Start Essentials Pen Set is suitable for ages 6-13 years old and comes with a 3Doodler Start Pen with a USB cable, 48 3Doodler Start Plastic Strand and an activity guide containing stencils and tutorials to get you started.

After looking through the booklet Daisy decided she wanted to make a butterfly using the template. Once charged the pen is really easy to use, you simply switch it on and wait for the red light to turn green, this indicates that the pen is heated and ready to use. Next, you insert your colour choice of the plastic strand into the back of the pen until it clicks into place, simply click the orange button to start and stop the pen or double-click to reverse.

The templates in the book are really easy to use as you can simply doodle straight onto a flat surface, the plastic cools almost immediately and lifts off the template with ease. You can also mould and reshape the plastic using your fingers and join shapes together using the pen.

Daisy was delighted with her creation, she found the pen so easy to use but did need some help inserting the plastic strands. I really like that you don’t need any special artistic skills to use the pen, it has been designed with all levels of ability in mind. You do need a good level of patience though as it does take time to create one of the stencil designs.

Another great thing about the 3Doodler is that you can freestyle with it too, Daisy had fun practising writing her name and creating shapes and patterns.

With Halloween just around the corner, she wanted to make something spooky so her Daddy drew a template of a ghost for her to doodle which she then filled in herself.

There are lots more detailed 3D models to make using the pen which I think would be great for older kids but Daisy was more than happy with her simple designs. I think she enjoyed freestyling more than actually creating a specific design which is great as she was still having fun and learning at the same time.
