Making Your Ideal Home Office On A Budget

Now that working from home is the norm, many of us are looking to create some sort of home office setup.  But it’s one thing cramming a desk in somewhere, and another to create an ideal home office that works for you. And when you’re on a tight budget, this can be even more of a challenge.

So, here are a few tips to help you make your ideal home office on a budget.

Finding the right space for your office

First, you’ll need to find a suitable space in your home.  When you’re working to a budget, chances are you won’t be adding an extension. So, you’ll need to use a spare bedroom or corner of a room instead.

If you’re using part of your lounge, bedroom, or dining room, think about using screening or furniture to separate off the space.  Also, consider rearranging the rest of the room’s furniture to make as much space as possible to accommodate everything.  You may find having a declutter is necessary too.

Getting the décor right

Next, you’ll need to decorate the space, so you can comfortably work from home.

If you’re starting from scratch in a spare bedroom, then there are a few things to think about to make sure you spend money wisely.  If you’re in need of a new carpet, then think about laying something that will be not only durable but will also work if you need to use the space for a guest bedroom in the future. A carpet, along with the carpet fitting cost is expensive, so think long-term.

A splash of paint on the walls will brighten a space up, ready for home working, without costing too much.  But don’t choose a bright white as this can be hard on the eyes and feel too clinical.  Green is not only very fashionable but can also create the feeling of balance and a closeness with nature.

Ways to keep the cost down

You may wish to spend more on important things like a suitable computer and an ergonomic chair, but you can save money in other areas.

Your computer is an essential piece of equipment in your home office, and it’s only right to invest in its quality and performance. Still, you can buy a unit that meets your work’s requirements and your budget too when you shop refurbished laptops here. With countless brands and specs, you’ll find your dream laptop computer at an affordable price for your ideal home office.

Try to let in as much natural light as possible, then you won’t need to have the lights on all the time whilst you’re working.  And it will feel nicer to work in with more daylight and less harsh artificial lighting.  Adding tiebacks to curtains, removing net curtains, and cleaning the windows regularly are cost-effective ways to bring more light in.

A desk doesn’t need to be new, there are plenty of second-hand bargains to be had.  Just be sure to check the dimensions before you buy anything.  Look for desks that have enough space to work on, are the right height to work at with your office chair, and have enough leg room underneath.
