Project Mc2 Doll With Experiments Review & Giveaway

The Project Mc2 dolls have been created to encourage and advance girls in the areas of S.T.E.A.M ( science, technology, engineering, art and maths). This is something I fully support so when I was asked if Daisy would like one of the new experiments dolls to review I said yes.

Project Mc2 are a team of four smart and super cool girls who love science and use their spy skills to go on missions. You can watch them in action in the original Project Mc2 series only on Netflix.

Daisy was sent the McKeyla doll with the glitter light bulb experiment. The doll itself is 12″ tall and comes dressed in a stylish outfit suited to her personality. The doll also comes with a backpack and beaker shaped comb as well as the light bulb experiment.

The experiment with this doll is a glitter globe light bulb which you can make light up using safe household ingredients like water, glycerine and glitter. We chose to use little sparkly beads instead of glitter and you could also use food colouring if you prefer.

Daisy loved setting up the experiment and was really excited when the bulb lit up. I like that the experiment can be created again and again.

Daisy also loved how poseable the doll is, her articulated limbs make play really fun and easy.

Watching The Classics- A New Year A New You Campaign

I love watching films, there’s nothing better than sitting down in the evening and losing yourself in a plot line. Since the introduction of subscription services I’ve found myself bingeing on whole TV series of shows instead of films. This new year I want to shake things up a bit and watch some of the great classics to get me back in to the habit of film watching.

I want to watch things that I wouldn’t usually reach for, films that I’ve heard great things about. I’ve chosen some films that I think Chris and I will really enjoy watching together. We are a bit nerdy and like to talk about the film afterwards and look up the actors.

Here are the classics I’ve chosen.

Dial M For Murder

As a Hitchcock fan I can’t believe I’ve never seen this film. Grace Kelly stars as a society woman who’s husband plans to murder her. Of course there’s lots of chilling twists and enough suspense to keep you right on the edge of your seat. I do love a good thriller.

The Towering Inferno

I have heard reference to this film so many times but never taken the time to find out more about it. The Towering Inferno is a 1970’s disaster movie that’s full of action. It stars the legends Paul Newman and Steve McQueen. I have a feeling Chris might enjoy this more than me but I will definitely give it a go.

The Curious case of Benjamin Button

Although Brad Pitt isn’t one of my favourite actors this story sounds amazing. It’s a romantic fantasy drama about a man that ages in reverse. The film is loosely based on a 1922 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I’m really looking forward to watching this one.

Gone With The Wind

Despite catching snippets and knowing the characters names I have never ever watched this great classic. This 1939 American epic historical romance is set in the deep South during the American civil war. It stars Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh and won 8 Academy awards. The film is four hours long so we won’t be watching it all in one go. It will be interesting to see if this film lives up to the hype that surrounds it.

The Colour Purple

I have seen this film before in fact the novel that the film is based upon is one of my favourites. It’s been well over 10 years since I watched it last. Directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey this film couldn’t fail to become a classic. The film tells the story of Celie a Southern black woman and her life of servitude and abuse at the hand of her husband. It’s a tough watch but the ending is beautiful.

If you want to change things up this new year you can buy these classics and many more here.

Num Noms #UnBoxingDay Review

Although today is boxing day Daisy has had fun taking part in the Num Noms #UnBoxingDay campaign. She was delighted when the brand new series 3 Lunch Box Deluxe character pack arrived for her to review. Num Noms are scented collectable characters that you can mix and match to create your own flavours. Daisy already has a ton of series 1 and series 2 characters so she was excited to get a sneak peek at the brand new series.

The lunch box pack has an adorable spoon handle and the box can be re-used as a storage case for the Num Noms. This set also includes a stamp-it nom and an erase-it nom which are a cute addition to the series. Daisy loved guessing the scents and looking at the leaflet to find out their names. She got a really good selection with this pack to start her series 3 collection off. I think a big advantage of this set is that it’s an affordable way to boost your collection without the risk of getting duplicate characters.

One of the huge appeals of the Num Nom toys is that you can you buy them in mystery boxes. If your child is crazy about YouTube unboxing videos you will know exactly what I’m talking about. The lunch box deluxe set comes with a mystery box included which is very exciting. Daisy loves the excitement and anticipation of opening the mystery boxes to see which character she will get.

Daisy also got three of the new series 3.1 mystery boxes to open. She was delighted that all of the Nums inside came with new duo flavoured gloss-ups. She also got a glittery Num which she thinks is the best. The Num Noms Lunch Box Deluxe pack is available to buy from Amazon and other good toy retailers.

Review: Lalaloopsy Princess Mittens Fluff’N’Stuff Doll

Daisy is always excited when Lalaloopsy adverts come on the TV so she was delighted when a Princess Mittens Fluff’N’Stuff doll arrived in the post for her to review. She was also happy to find a snowflake to decorate along with the doll, it was a great excuse to do some festive crafting.img_29811

img_30011 img_29921 img_30061Mittens Fluff’N’Stuff was sewn on December 21st from an eskimo’s scarf. She looks absolutely beautiful with her ice blue hair and delicate snowflake featured outfit. Her cheeks are rosy and she comes with a pet polar bear.

Daisy’s favourite part of the doll is her glittery tulle skirt and snowflake favourite part of the doll is her ice castle inspired hair which features snowballs, a tiara, glitter and a gorgeous headband.img_30121 img_30141The doll features moveable limbs and head making positioning for play easy and fun. Daisy did find the head to be a little cumbersome at times as it’s much larger than the rest of the dolls body that would be my only criticism.

Daisy had fun decorating her snowflake using lots of gold and silver glitter glue and sparkling gems. It’s now proudly displayed on our Christmas tree much to Daisy’s delight. img_30771 img_31241Mittens Fluff’N’Stuff is part of the new Princess series and can be bought at most good retailers. I think she would make a lovely Christmas present or birthday gift.angela

Review: Sheaffer Quattro Multifunction Pen

It’s no secret that I’m a stationery addict, from pens to notebooks it all makes me happy. I also love writing to my penpals and have really come to appreciate using a good quality pen. Recently I was asked to review the Sheaffer Quattro multifunction pen which I thought would be the perfect addition to my writing collection.img_28451 img_28461The Sheaffer Quattro is a 4-in1 multifunction pen, you can choose from black, blue and red ink. It also features a touch screen stylus too.

The pen itself is slim and comfortable to grip when writing. With a twist of the barrel you can select which colour you want to use. The pen has a metallic blue grip section and a polished chrome barrel.

I particularly liked the pocket clip as I like to attach my pens to notepads for easy access. I also like how smooth the ink flows when I’m writing. These pens are built to last and can be refilled when they run out of ink.img_28501I’ve put the pen in my handbag as I think the touch screen stylus feature will be really useful. During these colder months I will still be able to wear my gloves and use my phone or tablet at the same time.

The Shaeffer Quattro comes in a stylish gift box and would make a fabulous present for those stationery lovers in your life.

The pen is available to buy at The Pen Shop and all good stationery retailers.

Half Term Baking with Betty Crocker

Although I’m a massive fan of cakes and sweet treats I’m a total novice when it comes to baking. So when I was accepted for the Betty Crocker #FunToMake campaign with The Insiders I was delighted.

The Insiders  are a network of over 600,000 influential consumers who help to spread the word about new products. Membership is free and once you join you can apply to take part in current campaigns.

There was much excitement in our house when a Betty Crocker VIP pack arrived in time for half term. Inside we found a Chocolate Chip Cookie pouch, Chocolate Fudge Brownies, Velvety Vanilla cake mix and a tub of Vanilla Icing. There were also some useful recipe cards as well as flyers and vouchers to help spread the word.img_24961I have absolutely no shame in using ready made baking mixes, I know where my strength lies and it’s not in baking. I have tried one of the Betty Crocker mixes in the past so I already knew the finished products would taste amazing.

Daisy and Jake both love to bake. Mixing all the ingredients together is great fun and if it gets messy then that’s even better. img_25461 img_25531 img_25541 img_25611 img_25631 I want my children to enjoy being in the kitchen and creating delicious food. Baking is a great sensory experience and a brilliant way to learn some life skills at the same time.

All of the mixes were super easy to prepare and they baked perfectly, my absolute favourite is the Velvety Vanilla cake mix it was so moist and delicious.

Have you tried the Betty Crocker mixes ? leave me a comment I love to hear from you.

Review: Something Special Mr Tumble with Lights and Sound

Now that Daisy is in school full time Jake finally has the chance to choose what to watch on TV and it’s usually CBeebies. One of his favourite programmes is ‘Something Special’. He loves Mr Tumble and his spotty bag so when a Mr Tumble with Lights and Sound by Golden Bear Toys arrived for him to review he was so excited.img_27711 img_27791Mr Tumble with lights and sound is super soft with lots of textured fabrics to touch and feel. He also comes with his iconic spotty bag. I like how friendly he looks and the size is just perfect for little hands to play with.

When you squeeze his hand he says lots of fun ‘Mr Tumble’ phrases like “I’m Mr Tumble” and “Ahhaa”. His spotty bow tie lights up too. Mr Tumble takes 2 AAA batteries which are included ready for you to have fun with straight away.

Jake loves stroking Mr Tumble’s soft hair and taking off his spotty bag, finding little toys to store inside is such good fun. He can also open and close Mr Tumble’s waistcoat which he finds most amusing.img_27821 img_27901 img_27941Mr Tumble has already been on a few outings with us and is a regular nap time companion for Jake. I think he will be a firm favourite for a long time to come.

Mr Tumble with Lights and Sound is available from Amazon and other good toy retailers.

Is Something Special a favourite in your house ? leave me a comment I love to hear from you.

Family Fever

Book Review- Quack and Field

The Summer might be far behind us but memories and triumphs of the 2016 Olympics remain. When the author of the new Quack and Field children’s books got in touch to ask if I would like to review his books I thought it would be a fantastic fun way to teach Daisy all about the Olympic and Paralympic games.

Created by Rob Foster and illustrated by Jon Wotton Quack and Field is a series of children’s story guides to all Olympic and Paralympic events.

The stories are narrated by Quack the duck commentator, he introduces us to the crazy animal characters taking part in the events and a little about the events themselves.

Quack and Field Swimming

img_28261‘Swimming’ is the first book in the series and tells the story of four animals battling to be the best in the 50 metres race at the Olympics. We liked this fun colourful tale, Daisy loves going swimming so it was definitely her favourite book out of the two we were sent. I particularly like the pages that explain in a child friendly simple way about the what the 50 metres race is and the difference between length and width.

Quack and Field Trampolining img_28241‘Trampolining’ tells the story of four crazy animals all competing to be the best bouncers. Daisy and I giggled throughout this book at the many mishaps that the animals have while trampolining. I particularly liked the characters especially Pixie the Penguin she’s adorable.img_28411I asked Daisy what she liked best about the books and she said “I like the funny animals and the swimming pool, I want to win a medal at swimming”.

The next book in the series ‘Wheelchair Rugby’ is due for release in January 2017.

You can keep up to date with Quack and Field on Twitter and Facebook.

Review: Splashy the Whale

I don’t know about you but I loved playing board games as a child. Daisy has recently taken an interest in playing games so when we were asked to review Splashy the Whale by John Adams I knew the whole family would love it.

Splashy the Whale is a fun electronic skirting skill and action game, he eats anything he finds out at sea and if you tickle his tongue while you try and retrieve the pieces with your fishing rod he will squirt you with water.img_27291 img_27381 Setting up the game is super easy, you will need 3 AA batteries (not included) then you just fill the reservoir up with water. There is an on off button on the side, I found this useful for when we just wanted to play without the water which is still lots of fun.img_27391You place all the pieces in Splashy the Whale’s mouth, grab your fishing rod and you are good to go. Each player takes it in turns to retrieve one of the pieces of flotsam and jetsam. Each piece has a different point value for example an anchor is worth 2 points and a submarine is worth 5 points.

The player with the most points when all the objects have been removed is the winner.

As a family we had so much fun taking it in turns to hook the pieces out of Splashy’s mouth. One thing I would suggest is that you put a water proof mat under the game we used our large messy mats that we use for crafts.img_27631img_27571 img_27531 img_27451There were squeals of delight from the children when Splashy soaked them and the competition to hook the highest value piece was fierce.
I think the game is great for developing hand eye co-ordination skills as well as providing a wonderful sensory experience. I found it a fun way to teach the children about taking turns and encourage mathematical skills by counting the number of points they had at the end of the game.

Since the game arrived it’s not been back in it’s box, the children want to play every day.

Splashy the Whale is suitable for ages 4+ and adult supervision is advised. The game is available to buy from Amazon and other good toy retailers.

Does Splashy the Whale look like a game your family would enjoy ? leave me a comment I love hearing from you.
