Maths Problems, Giggle Fits & Sunshine #LittleLoves

It’s been a few weeks since I last wrote a little loves post. I decided to take a little break as I wasn’t really feeling the love for anything. March has been a bit of a tough month with one thing or another but I’m determined to get back in to the swing of things from now on.

I’ve been taking things slowly this week and trying out new routines to see what suits us all as a family better. I also challenged myself to be in bed by 10 pm every night and asleep by 11 pm, I’m happy to report I’ve succeeded and I’m feeling so much better for it. I’ve only had one ‘rough’ day this week which is a huge improvement compared to the last few weeks.

Here are this weeks little loves.

Read

When I’m feeling stressed and overwhelmed there is one blog I always turn to for inspiration. Be More With Less has so many inspirational posts to read. I have no desire to become a full-time minimalist but I’m all for clearing the clutter from my mind and Courtney’s blog helps me to do that. I also end up finding lots of other wonderful blogs and resources through her posts. I definitely recommend reading if you want to make some small positive changes in your life.

Watched

This is such a tough one this week as we have watched so many great things. Chris and I have been making the effort to switch off early and watch a film together with no distractions. This week I’ve loved two films, Arrival and Why Him? The two films couldn’t be any different. Arrival is one of the best alien themed films I’ve seen, it kept me hooked right until the end, Amy Adams plays her part brilliantly. Why Him ? is just hilarious, James Franco and Bryan Cranston are such a great combination. I had a fit of giggles at one of the opening scenes so much so we had to pause it while I recovered.

Heard

I heard Daisy’s class solving maths problems during a workshop in their classroom this week. Maths was not a favourite subject of mine but if I had teachers like Daisy I’m sure I would have loved it. They make everything so much fun to learn. I love these parent workshops, it gives me a good insight in to how to help Daisy learn at home too.

Made

I helped Daisy make something we have been sent to review. She had such fun playing with it. I love watching her make up little stories when she plays.

Worn

I don’t have anything to report as such for this section. I have however ordered myself some new clothes from H&M and Matalan for Spring and Summer. Being a larger lady I go for comfort over style, I ain’t never going to be a fashionista but I do like to look neat and tidy.

And Lastly

I loved the few sunny days we had at the start of the week. Being able to sit in the garden and feel the warm sun on my skin has helped me to feel much better. I love that the kids played in the garden until almost bedtime, they certainly had no trouble sleeping on those nights.

Vintage Magazines, Schedules & Strong Women #LittleLoves

In last weeks little loves post I touched on the subject of trying to gain a better work/life balance. This week I have been following a new schedule and switching off when I need to and it’s working wonders. I do wonder if I’m cut out for this working from home lark. I have workaholic tendencies and burn out really quickly.

I’m happy to say that the rain has stayed off for the majority of the school runs this week and the sun has made an appearance. I’m hoping to get out in the garden at some point this weekend to start the inevitable post Winter clean up. I can already see the signs of life again from some of the plants and shrubs.

Here are some of my #littleloves from the week.

Read

On Saturday I visited an antiques and collectable centre. Amongst the usual vintage treasures were magazines and postcards from bygone days. I spent some time looking through the magazines at the articles and advertisements and had a good giggle at the advice columns and the pin-up models of the 1950’s. I also spent a while reading the postcards that were lovingly sent to family and friends at addresses that probably no longer exist.

Watched

Years ago when I first discovered blogs Louise Pentland’s ‘Sprinkle of Glitter’ was a favourite of mine. I loved her style of writing. As the years went by and her fame on YouTube grew I found it hard to relate to a lot of her content as it seemed targeted at a teen audience which was such a shame. I’ve just rediscovered her again in the last twelve months and I have to say I’m so glad I did. She seems to have gone through a huge personal change and I’m loving the raw, real and uncensored videos she’s creating now.

She made this video on International Women’s Day this week and what she had to say really resonated with me. I’m one of life’s apologiser’s and I certainly never shout about my achievements.

Heard

My children say so many funny things throughout the week I usually write them down so I don’t forget. A few gems from daisy this week have been ” Mummy, when will all the tree’s die ?” , “Do you know about the word spontaneous, because my teacher does” and to Jake “don’t do that ! you are not Spiderman”. Listening to them certainly is a tonic if you are having a stressful week.

Made

As I mentioned above, I’ve made a new working week schedule. I’ve cut my working days down to 3 days a week from 7 which is a huge achievement for me. I spent some time with one of my lovely friends on Monday, we share the same hobby of entering competitions. We talked about how to schedule and organise our time so we don’t miss out on those all important closing dates. I came away with lots of ideas and have already made myself a new plan of action.

Worn

Nothing fancy, but if it counts I’ve worn my coat open this week instead of zipped up. It’s definitely starting to feel like it’s time to swap my Winter coat for a lighter jacket.

And lastly

This week I’ve loved closing my laptop by 8pm, putting a film on and lying down on the couch to relax. I might not be as productive and I might miss some opportunities but I truly don’t care. I had actually forgotten what it was like to give my full attention to one task at a time. Even my phone has stayed in the kitchen to avoid any distractions.

I’ve watched Bad Moms and Fifty Shades of Grey, both hilarious in their own ways !

Blogging, Virgins & Lullabies #LittleLoves

This week has been a bit tough. This nasty hacking cough is plaguing  us all at the moment, it’s been relentless. It’s meant that Daisy has only been in school one day this week, most kids would be quite happy with that but she loves school.

We have had lots of tears about missing her friends. I’m hoping she can go in for the last day before half term, fingers crossed for full nights sleep. Focusing on my little loves from the week really helps to keep me positive.

Read

I go back and to as to whether I want to try to earn a living from blogging. I’m not sure if it’s become a saturated market but I do like making little improvements to my blog all the time.

A few weeks ago I won a book written by fellow bloggers Emma Bradley and Lynn James called ‘Blogging Your Way To Riches’. I’ve been dipping in and out this week as it’s such an easy read. I’m loving the practical advice, I just need to start implementing it now.

Watched

I’ve been struggling to find something to replace Gilmore Girls but I think I have managed it. I’ve started watching Jane The Virgin on Netflix and I love it. How it passed me by when it was on TV I don’t know. I love the story and the narrator makes me giggle. It’s such an easy watch and I don’t feel the need to binge watch it which is great.

I’ve also started watching Sneaky Pete on Amazon Prime which I’m really enjoying.

Heard

Despite all the coughing and requests for endless drinks and snacks some lovely things have been heard. Daisy and Jake have wanted lots of cuddles and mummy time. Daisy has been sleeping in bed with me and one night I heard her say through her poorly tears that she could only get back to sleep if I sung her a lullaby.

My 5 year old girl who insists she’s growing up and can do things herself needed to hear mummy’s voice to make her feel better. Sometimes children say things that you just want to remember forever.

Made

I’m seriously wondering if I’m ever going to have anything worthwhile to put in this category. I think I might set myself a Pinterest challenge or something.

Worn

Apart from my pyjamas which I absolutely love wearing I’ve also been wearing some new make up. It might sound a little strange seeing as I’m poorly and have barely left the house. It’s way too easy to wallow in self pity and not make an effort when you are feeling unwell. Putting some make up on this week has not only made me look better it’s made me feel better too.

And lastly

I’ve had plenty of time to start planning my Spring cleaning this week. There’s something about the lighter days that makes me want to clean everything within an inch of it’s life. My house is always pretty tidy but dust is my enemy and it must be defeated !

Boyhood, Face Masks & Beauty Blogs #LittleLoves

I’m a day late with my little loves post this week. Last week I felt absolutely rotten so I took such much needed time off everything hence me trying to catch up this weekend. I can’t believe how fast the weeks are flying by just lately. Daisy has one more week in school before half term and I can’t wait to have her home. Here are this weeks #LittleLoves.

Read

I’ve recently started a new skincare regime and started wearing make up again. At the ripe old age of 39 I had never used brushes to apply my foundation (I know shocking isn’t it). I’ve spent a lot of time this week reading about how to apply foundation and which products are best for my skin type. It’s only natural as a blogger that I turn to other bloggers for tips and advice. This week I’ve been reading lots of beauty blogs and I came across Let’s Talk Beauty which is my favourite so far. If you have a favourite beauty blog then please let me know so I can check it out.

Watched

It’s been ages since I sat down and watched a whole film with no interruptions. I took some time out this week and watched Boyhood and I absolutely loved it. The fact that it was filmed over an 12 year period is just amazing. It tells the story of Mason from the age of 6 to 18 and his family life. Considering how it was filmed over such a long period of time the story flowed beautifully. It’s definitely worth a watch.

Heard

With Valentines day approaching I’ve been in the mood to listen to some classic love songs. I have Amazon Prime music so I’ve been using their playlists. I’ve been singing along to ‘God only knows’ by The Beach Boys and ‘All You Need is Love’ by ‘The Beatles’.

Made

A lot of purchases ! does that count ?

Worn

Daisy and I indulged in a pamper evening and we wore some face masks. I’m loving the new pure clay masks from L’oreal Paris. I chose the Detox one which draws out impurities, I could actually see the pores open up when I had the mask on. My skin felt wonderful afterwards. I went with a gentler mask for Daisy.

And lastly

I’ve loved relaxing and taking it easy this week but I’m raring to get going again. I’m going to sit down for a few hours with my bullet journal and plan the rest of the month. I have goals to start smashing.

Blogs, Horror Films & Cute Cats #LittleLoves

After a week full of coughs, colds and feeling downright grumpy I was worried I wouldn’t be able to find any little loves. I think it’s so important to look for the good in every situation, especially when you need to shake yourself out of a funk. Here are this weeks #LittleLoves.

Read

One of my favourite things about taking part in linkies and also co-hosting one is finding new blogs to read. I started reading blogs back in 2008 after stumbling across one accidently. I love reading little snippets of real peoples lives, I find the blogs I read inspiring and motivational. This week I’ve had the time to sit down and read lots of new blogs far too many to list. I just wish there were more hours in my day so I could indulge more often.

Watched

I enjoyed a trip to the cinema on Sunday evening with my cousin and my eldest girl. We used to go regularly to see the latest horror releases but I’ve become some what a wimp of late. When I saw the new James McAvoy film ‘Split’ advertised I knew we would all love it. Wow is all I can say about it, although not your classic horror it’s certainly dark and chilling.

Heard

I’ve mentioned my love for podcasts previously in my little loves post and this week I have a new favourite. I’m learning so much from the ProBlogger podcast by Darren Rowse. I came across his blog a few weeks ago and was so happy to discover he had a podcast too.

Made

I have absolutely nothing to fit in this category this week sadly. Creativity has been sadly lacking of late but with half term just around the corner I have plans to remedy that. I love getting crafty with Daisy and Jake so I really need to put the effort in again.

Worn

I love my pyjamas at the best of times but there’s nothing nicer than slouching in your jammy’s when you are feeling poorly. I’ve been thinking about making it my mission to own more pyjamas than actual clothes.

And lastly

I just had to include this photo of Daisy and our cat Mo Mo. He’s a little bit of an oddity our cat, sometimes he likes us and sometimes he doesn’t, he can be a little scatty at times too. In the last 6 months he’s been like a different cat, he loves the kids and never says no to a belly rub. Daisy loves him so much, he’s taken to sleeping on her bed at night and follows her around. I caught a few snaps of them this week that I thought were just so sweet.

Happiness, Snoods & Comfort Food #LittleLoves

It’s Friday and it’s time to share this weeks Little Loves with you. This week has been pretty good, I’ve had a few lovely opportunities turn up. The children have been in relatively good moods which always helps too. I was happy so see the blue sky and sunshine make an appearance, I’m so over this cold weather now. I’ve started thinking about what I want to do with the garden when Spring arrives.

Read

I bought a couple of lovely books in the sale at The Works last weekend. I’ve been dipping  in to How To Be Happy by Anna Barnes. It’s the perfect book if you don’t have a lot of time but you want a little burst of happy. The illustrations, photo’s and inspirational quotes are beautiful.

Watched

Two of my favourite shows returned this week. Call The Midwife was brilliant as usual although I really do miss Sister Evangelina. I always end up crying when I watch it, it’s such a good show. Homeland also returned although I seriously need a recap of the last series as I was a bit confused.

Heard

Every Thursday morning for the last couple of months Aby from You Baby Me Mummy has been live on Facebook discussing her blogging hints and tips. I have taken a couple of her free courses and the information has been invaluable. This week was all about Pinterest. If you want to take you blog to the next level then I highly recommend tuning in.

Made

My biggest lad came for his tea on Thursday and I always like to cook something filling for him. He’s a growing lad after all at 17. Scott lives with his dad and is busy with college and work so I don’t see home as often as I would like. I made a delicious slow cooked chicken casserole with dumplings and crusty bread that should keep him going for a while. There’s no better way to express your love than through comfort food.

Wore

I bought a lovely fluffy snood in the New Look sale at the weekend. My old scarves were starting to look a little ratty. It’s been freezing here this week it’s been well used on the school run.

And lastly

I’m off to a delightful quirky little coffee shop this morning to catch up with some friends. The owner is an artist and she displays her art work for sale at the shop. I’m really looking forward to a good gossip over coffee and cake.

Elbows, Soup & Soaps #LittleLoves

It’s Friday and it’s time to share this weeks #LittleLoves with you. This week has been a little bit dull and staying motivated and positive has been tough. I think we are all coming down with something so there have been some early nights and a slower pace. Writing this post reminds me about the small things in the week that I’ve loved.

Read

A bit boring I know but this week I’ve been reading about tennis elbow. My elbow has been painful for months and I finally got a diagnosis from the doctor. I’ve been reading about ways I can ease it a little until it clears up. If anyone does or has suffered and has any tips please let me know. This might seem a little out of place on little loves but now I have a diagnosis I can treat it properly.

Watched

I’ve been catching up with the soaps this week. I only watch Corrie, Eastenders and Emmerdale but I’ve fell a little behind lately. I do love a good catch up and I’m always reading the spoilers. There’s nothing better than losing yourself in a gritty far fetched storyline. I don’t watch much live TV nowadays but I do like to watch the soaps when they are on.

Heard

This week I have loved listening to Daisy reading. Every day it seems that she’s learnt a new word to read. She whizzes through her little bag of words. I almost feel redundant as she needs less and less help with her reading book. I listened from my bedroom as I heard her reading books to Jake, trying so hard with the tricky words she didn’t know.

Made

With a busy week and a few appointments after school I’ve needed some quick meals to turn to. On Wednesday I made a simple bowl of soup and some crusty bread for tea. We all enjoyed it so much and I think I will be adding it to our menu on a regular basis.

Wore

I seem to reach for the same tops every morning so I’ve been trying to change it up this week. I’m consciously picking out clothes that I rarely wear. I read that most people only actually wear 20% of what is in their wardrobe, quite shocking when you think of how much space the other 80% is taking up !

And lastly

Lately I’ve been working every single day, whether it be on the blog, searching for earning opportunities or one of the other income streams I have. Being self employed and working from home puts this pressure on you to always be doing something. The temptations are always there and it’s so hard for me to just switch off. I’ve decided that Saturday is definitely my day off. I’m actually looking forward to the weekends again.

Magic, Frosty Mornings & Plans #LittleLoves

I’m really excited to be taking part in another new linky this year. I’ve really enjoyed reading some of my favourite bloggers #LittleLoves posts each Friday. I decided it was time to join in myself, it will be so nice to look back on the things I’ve loved each week.

Read

On January 1st I started reading ‘the Magic’ by Rhonda Byrne. I’m a big believer in the law of attraction and this book focuses on gratitude and the part it plays. It’s designed to be read over 28 days with tasks to undertake each day. I’m finding it really helpful to keep the January blues away and focusing my mind on the positives.

Watched

I’ve been binge watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix in the evenings, I’m so late to the party with this show. I’m a few episodes in to season 3 and I’m hooked. It’s such an easy watch and so much fun. Chris pretends he doesn’t like it but I’ve caught him peeping over his laptop watching.

Heard

I’m listening to the stations on Amazon Prime music and keep finding myself drawn to Passenger. I particularly love this track called ‘Holes’ the lyrics are brilliant.

Made

We’ve been making lots of plans this week for the year ahead. As well as making goals we have been planning for the celebrations we have ahead this year. I turn 40, my eldest son turns 18 and heads to university and we are taking our first holiday as a family.

Wore

My wardrobe this week has mainly consisted of warm jumpers, leggings and joggers. All the things that make me feel extra cosy and comfortable. The kids have been well and truly bundled up for the school run as it’s been freezing in the mornings.

And lastly

This week we’ve really enjoyed and been grateful for the slower pace of life after the madness of Christmas. The final few months of last year were so busy so it’s been lovely to ease in to the new year slowly. With Daisy back at school, Chris back at work and new work trickling in slowly for me it will soon be busy again. Until then I’m going to savour every last bit of the peace and quiet.
