As someone who usually writes about money-saving and frugality this post might seem a little out of place but bear with me. I might love a bargain but there are some Winter essentials that I just won’t scrimp on. The old saying ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ is something I totally agree with.
I’ve come up with a list of 5 Winter purchases that I think are worth the investment.
A Winter Coat
I think a good quality winter coat is definitely worth paying more for. With the unpredictable weather, we seem to suffer every winter a good quality, durable coat is an absolute essential. I really like the e.s vision ladies winter parka from Engelbert Strauss. It’s got everything I look for in a winter coat like thermal insulation, windproof and water-repellent. Not only is a really good quality product it looks stylish too.
A Winter Duvet
I’ve written several times on the blog that I like to keep our energy costs low even in winter. One of the ways I do this is by investing in a good-quality duvet. I bought a Silentnight Hotel Collection 13.5 tog duvet a few years ago, it’s such lovely quality, super cosy and very warm. Another thing to look out for when buying a winter duvet is that it’s machine washable. I always wash mine before storing it away in the Spring.
Winter Boots
A good pair of winter boots is at the top of my essentials list. As someone who does the school run several times a day in all weathers quality as well as comfort is a priority. I have several pairs from Hotter Shoes and the Snow Boots they have available this season are top of my wish list. When choosing a pair of boots it’s important to look for durability as well as good quality, you want a pair that you can rely on year after year.
Car Maintainance
I think this is one of the areas that get overlooked but in winter it’s crucial. A car is one of the biggest investments you will make so why wouldn’t you spend the extra money to look after it? A good set of tyres and a full service are an absolute must before winter sets in. Keeping your car maintained ensures that everything is in good working order before the temperatures plummet.
Skincare
During the harsh winter months, your skin really does need some extra TLC. The products you include in your skincare routine can really make all the difference. I always invest in the best quality face and body moisturiser I can afford. Hand cream is an absolute must too. Also, remember that it’s still important to protect your skin from UV rays in Winter too.
